Tom Penders Thinks ESPN Is Out To Get His Players
February 4, 2009 – 7:19 pm by Michael BeanThis one’s a week after the fact, but SRI just discovered a mighty interesting clip of former Texas Longhorns and current Houston Cougars basketball coach Tom Penders on KGOW claiming that The Worldwide Leader doctored images purposefully. Here’s the quick background – last week, the Cougars lost to the Arizona Wildcats and at one point in the game, Aubrey Coleman of Houston stepped on the face of ‘Zona star Chase Buddinger. I’ll take a rain-check on passing judgment about whether or not it was intentional or not, but Penders gladly speaks up about the subject:
‘They put this X-ray vision thing in to make it look like Aubrey [Coleman] was looking down, which painted a very poor picture of what actually happened…And I think it was intentional on their part, because I’ve worked there, and I’ve seen them do these kinds of things. You can do a lot with television, they can doctor it up, they can make it look like someone’s looking in another direction. It’s very easy to do for them.’
Take a look for yourself:
Having lived in Austin for a number of years, I can tell you I’m all too aware of Tom Penders and the mess he leaves programs in – at least at Texas and in his subsequent job at George Washington. The Cougars are not that competitive this year so don’t be too shocked if the unflattering attention Penders is bringing to the once proud program leads to his dismissal in the near future.
