Initially after Scott Pioli ,the new Kansas City Chiefs GM, fired Herm Edwards there were rumors that Mike Shanahan would be his replacement. Those rumors proved false and then immediately after the Cardinals virtuoso offensive performance against the Eagles and defensive mastermind Jim Johnson, the next set of rumors were that Cardinals offensive coordinator Todd Haley would be the next Chiefs Head Coach.
This made much more sense than Shanahan. Pioli’s father in-law is Bill Parcells. Haley coached under Parcells in Dallas. His father was a well respected personnel director for the Steelers when they first started winning Super Bowls. Haley wouldn’t expect the same level of say in personnel that Shanahan would. When there was nothing coming out of KC for the past few weeks regarding any interviews, it was pretty obvious that Haley was the guy.
On Friday, the hiring became official. Below are interviews with Scott Pioli and QB Tyler Thigpen on WHB regarding the hiring of Todd Haley. Should be interesting to see if Thigpen gets first crack at the starting job. I think he showed enough to earn that right. Definitely over Brodie Croyle (although I love his wife!).
Here’s a quote from Scott Pioli:
“We don’t care about sizzle, we care about substance. In interviewing Todd, we both said the greatest joy we got out of this game is pursuing and being in the hunt to win championships.”
