Bill Maher on Sports Radio
February 16, 2009 – 4:01 pm by Jimmy ShapiroComedians and actors love to talk sports. Just like athletes love to talk about music and movies. Some of my favorite segments when I was a host were with comedians. Bill Bellamy was in studio telling me about LL Cool J fighting Jamie Foxx during the filming of “Any Given Sunday”. Craig Shoemaker telling us stories about co-hosting the Magic Hour with Magic Johnson. Jay Mohr just going on long rants about sports. Great stuff.
Comedian Bill Maher was on WSCR in Chicago with Mully and Hanleyon Monday to pimp the release of his DVD “Religulous” which comes out on Tuesday. With all the legal crap and controversy going on in sports it was a great time to talk to Bill Maher. Here are some of his funnier quotes:
On if it’s a good thing to have a sports fan in the White House:
“Sure, better to have that hobby then blowing up the world. He’s such a real guy. Man it’s such a difference when you see him and his wife together. They have eye contact. I never saw Bush look at his wife once. They have actual communication with people.”
On if the government should get involved in sports:
“No, No. Why is the government involved in anything like that. Who cares. It’s a game. It’s men hitting balls with a stick. This is not something Congress should be involved in.”
On sports benefiting a community:
“The only people who actually do better when your team wins a championship are the strippers in that town.”
On the Michael Phelps story:
“You wonder why this country is in such bad shape, it’s because the people. There’s a rot in the people. They’re stupid and they’re busybodies and they don’t know what the priorities are. So if there’s a guy in law enforcement and this is what he’s doing with his time, just look in the mirror.
