God Bless Bill Walton, Hyperbole Just Isn’t The Same Without Him On The Call

Is it just me, or is there something missing in the world of NBA broadcasting with Hall of Famer Bill Walton not on the circuit this year as he’s recovered from multiple back surgeries the past year or so. First of all, best wishes to him to finally catch a break with his body and to get back out there doing what he loves – calling basketball games with friends and colleagues around the league.

Now, with the pleasantries out of the way, listen to this old gem from Walton as a game winds down between the Phoenix Suns and the Los Angeles Lakers several years ago. The subject of his way over the top praise? Boris Diaw.

“The vision to somehow acquire Boris Diaw. And when you look at Boris Diaw and what he’s done to this franchise, he’s changed everything. As we celebrate his brilliance, and when you talk to Boris Diaw..what a Classical human being he is. It was 201 years ago today that Beethoven’s Symphony #3 in E Flat escorted in the Age of Romanticism. And when I look at Boris Diaw, I think of Beethoven in the Age of the Romantics.”

As I’ve said before here on SRI about Bill Walton – you just can’t make this stuff up. And for those of you out there who can’t stand him..shame on you.

Oh, as for Boris, let’s give him credit for taking advantage of all the ridiculous eye candy out in the Phoenix/Tucson area – but let’s just let the effusive praise begin and end there.
