Pau Gasol and Derek Fisher On The NBA 2nd Half
February 18, 2009 – 3:34 am by Michael BeanThe Los Angeles Lakers have to feel pretty good about where they stand heading into the second half of the 2008-2009 NBA season. Prior to All Star weekend, they held a comfortable 13.5 game lead over the Phoenix Suns for first place in the Pacific Division, a 7 game lead over Denver and San Antonio for the top seed in all of the Western Conference, and a 1 game lead in the loss column over the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers for the best overall record in the NBA, which if the Lakers were to reach the Finals, would mean home court throughout the playoffs, something they lacked last year in their series against Boston. Just about the only thing not going in LA’s favor of course is the major concern surrounding Andrew Bynum’s return. Some think the Lakers have what it takes to win it all even without him this spring, but I’m not so sure about that. Let’s hear what veterans Derek Fisher and Pau Gasol have to say on KLAC Tuesday. Fisher spoke before the game about his weekend of meetings as an active officer in the Players Union. Gasol spoke after helping the Lakers defeat the Atlanta Hawks 96-83 Tuesday night with his third career triple-double.
Derek Fisher after a busy weekend of meetings about the NBA Collective Bargaining Agreement: “Preliminary stuff but not insignificant [stuff was discussed]. We’re all going to have to have some responsibility in terms of how we continue to grow this game in a way that we can all be successful. That’s going to require adjustment on everybody’s part. But the fact that we had preliminary talks almost three years really even before it was necessary is a very good sign in my book. And I think we all are going to be reasonable in the directions that we need to move in going forward.”
