Who Will Be Throwing Passes To Larry Fitzgerald Next Season?
March 3, 2009 – 8:00 am by Doug Farrar
Has anyone ever had a better postseason than Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald? In the NFL’s 2008 postseason, he set records for receptions (30), receiving yards (546) and touchdowns (seven). He added a Pro Bowl MVP award after catching five balls for 81 yards and two scores in the exhibition. How do you follow up something like that? On Monday, Fitzgerald spent some time with Bickley and MJ of XTRA Sports 910 in Phoenix to talk about his NFL future. In the near future, Fitzgerald was on his way to visit the troops. Then, Dubai, South Africa, and a host of exotic places. When he returns? More work to do…
On how seriously the “Kurt Warner to SF” rumors should be taken:
“I don’t know … obviously it’s pretty clear that he’s going to go out there and visit. I know Kurt’s been playing phenomenal football for us, and he deserves to be compensated. I don’t really like to get into the money talk, but I know Kurt and what he’s done for this program — he really got us going in the right direction, and I want to make sure he’s here. I know everybody on our team feels the same way.”
On how he can get even better:
“I’m not even close to reaching my full potential. I’ve got a ways to go. I’m still not the route-runner I need to be, I still need to improve after the catch, my downfield blocking … there are a lot of things I need to improve on. I’ve gotten better at them, but I’m not where I need to be — not where I’m gonna have to be to be the best receiver in the business, which is my ultimate goal.”
A better version of Larry Fitzgerald? I know a lot of cornerbacks shudder at the very thought.
