Joan Rivers Continues To Find New And Amazing Ways To Find Her Way In Front Of An Audience

March 4, 2009 – 5:24 am by Bunk

Joan and Melissa Rivers don’t get too much publicity in the world of sports media and that’s probably a good thing. You know what? I’m probably being a bit harsh, at least with Joan. She is a regular on Howard Stern’s show and didn’t she call Russell Crowe a piece of fu*&ng s**t.  You can’t ball that bad I suppose with those two feathers in your cap.  As for Melissa? It’s hard to blame her for being nothing more than just the daughter of a crazy famous lady.

With the Celebrity Appearance beginning Sunday, they’ve gotten to spend some time with some notable athletes including Dennis Rodman, golfer Natalie Gulbis, Scott Hamilton, and Herschel Walker. Turns out Melissa flaked at the last minute, but Joan still called in to WJFK in DC with the Junkies to talk about her wonderful self. So let’s hear about the experience of competing against one’s mother and daughter respectively, and if Joan has any anecdotes about some athletes worthy of our attention.

On why someone of her wealth and fame would do the show:

“I did the show because I wanted to see if I could get out there and do it. It was so challenging all the way through. It’s amazing to see what you can do by yourself without the help of assistants, telephone calls. It’s amazing.”

On which of the other contestants she knew prior to the show:

“I knew very few before hand. Mostly the comedians. I knew Melissa!”

What about the athletes?

“Rodman is fabulous. He’s great. As Melissa says, just get on the Dennis train and have a good time. I adored Herschel.”

On professional poker player Annie Duke:

“I like people that are honorable. She’s a poker player and that’s what poker players do. They never tell the truth. They lie, they connive and they do whatever they have to do to win.”

On Natalie Gulbis and if the LPGA golfer has fake breasts or not:

“I love Natalie. She’s a straight golfer, which is almost an oxymoron. She’s the hottest looking golfer I ever saw. I never had the opportunity to nor did I want to punch her breasts.”
