The Latest And Not So Greatest In Team Anthems

March 11, 2009 – 10:50 am by Jimmy Shapiro

It seems like every few years when a team is on pace for a championship run, either some local musicians or the team puts together an absolutely terrible song.  If it’s terrible, you at least want it to be funny or somewhat catchy like “The Super Bowl Shuffle.”  I can still recite the Fridge’s lines from that song.

The latest version of an awful team song is called “Rise Up” for the Cleveland Cavaliers performed by James Johnson & the JukeN Jazz Band.  It was launched on WKNR  in Cleveland last week.  It reminds of a song from the mid eighties with a synthesizer in the background.  I’m now rooting against the Cavs just so I don’t have to continually hear this drecht (which is Yiddish for crap, but I just love Yiddish words).

Listen to the Cavs song “Rise Up”

Throughout the years there have been some hilarious and awful team songs.  Most of them of course are from the 80′s.  Man, why did I have to grow up in this era where girls always covered their asses with long shirts and hairspray was all the rage!  Sorry for the sidebar.  Many are performed by the players themselves.  I know many sites have done this before, but it never gets old. After the jump see some of the more memorable team songs.

The Rammers – Ram It

Silver and Black Attack  (Oakland Raiders)

The Baseball Boogie (Los Angeles Dodgers)

Red Hot (Calgary Flames)

Miami Dolphins “Can’t Touch Us”

Locker Room Rock  (Seattle Seahawks)

Buddy’s Watching You (Philadelphia Eagles)
