LaDainian Tomlinson To Remain With San Diego

March 12, 2009 – 9:12 am by Michael Bean

The rumors surrounding San Diego Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson’s future in Southern California can be put to bed. Today, his contract was reworked that provided the Chargers much needed salary cap relief while allowing the team to retain the services of the future first ballot of Hall of Fame RB. LT joined XX 1090 in San Diego to talk about the relief of knowing where he’ll be playing in 2009.

On where he gets his news/information in the world of sports:

“I got to be honest with you, I get it from my wife. She has a way of getting all types of things, and she informs me of things that are being said. So she’s my source.”

On the role Chargers CEO and owner Dean Spanos played in the negotiations:

“He played a huge role. If it wasn’t for Dean, I don’t know if this would have been worked out. He’s the type of owner that a guy would want to have and would want to play for. And I’m happy he played the biggest role in bringing me back.”

On A.J. Smith:

“We’ll talk. And I understand from his standpoint the job that he’s trying to do. And I’m pretty sure he understands from my standpoint the things I’m trying to get accomplished.”

On whether or not he was optimistic something would get worked out:

“I was optimistic that something would get done, but I was also starting to think about where I would play next if it came to that. So obviously that was a thought process in my mind that I may be moving on, but I remained optimistic that something at the end of the day would get done.”
