Colt McCoy On A Friday

March 13, 2009 – 1:20 pm by Michael Bean

About this time next year, Texas Longhorns QB Colt McCoy will be going through the pre-draft workouts and the rest getting ready to embark on a professional football career. For now though, he’s got his sight set on unfinished business down on the 40 Acres in Austin. McCoy, who’s returning for his senior year, will attempt to beat Oklahoma for the fourth consecutive year, and has hopes to lead the ‘Horns back to Pasadena, the site of next year’s National Championship game. We all know what happened the last time the BCS title game was in Pasadena don’t we?

McCoy joined KTAR in Phoenix on Thursday to talk about spring practice, what he hopes to accomplish his final year in college, and his experience in the Fiesta Bowl in Arizona this past January.

On the thrilling last minute come from behind victory against Ohio State in last year’s Fiesta Bowl:

“Ohio State was a tremendous football team, and we didn’t play that well in the first half but pulled it all together in the end and made a great game out of it. We don’t like them that close but when you can pull them out when they’re close, it makes it pretty exciting.”

On his decision to come back for his senior year:

“Well I’m really close with my coaches and my teammates. I have an opportunity to get a degree. I’m almost done and my teammates are really great. We work hard together.  God has blessed me to be successful for three years and I’m just thankful for one more. Not many guys get to play at such a great place like Texas so I’m real thankful for that. And you know I really feel like we have a solid team; that we have a great chance to be back at the top one more time. And there’s a lot of things I can work on with my game, there’s a lot of ways I can improve so if I’m fortunate enough next year I’ll be up there high again.”
