Where’s Billy Bob Thornton Been?

Seems like a few years ago, actor and avid sports fan Billy Bob Thornton was all over the media landscape. These days? Not so much, no? Let’s check in with Billy Bob to see what he’s been up to. The Academy Award winning actor of Slingblade and Monster‘s Ball fame joined KILT in Houston on Thursday to talk about his band The Boxmasters and of course a little bit of this and that in the world of sports, including his in-game rituals while watching his favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals.
About his back story in the world of music:
“I came out to LA back in about 1980 and then got in a theater group, and started making a little bit of money to stay alive as an actor and kind of had to go with it for awhile. And you know, the movie business was real good to me and kept me going for a long time. But the whole time I was still making demos and everything.”
On his early days in the music business trying to make a living:
“You learn how much you like music when you’re out there making nothing, eating McDonalds every night.”
On his favorite role/movie he has been a part of:
“Well you know, Slingblade will always have a special place in my heart since that’s what kind of put me over the hump there. But there’s a movie called The Man Who Wasn’t There that I did with the Coen brothers, that one’s real close to me; I loved playing that part and working with them. Also a movie called A Simple Plan is another favorite of mine.”
On if he has any superstitions as a huge St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan:
“I have obsessive compulsive disorder to start so I have a bunch of rituals for just about everything. But baseball, it drives me crazy. And a lot of times what I’ll do is I won’t watch the other team bat. I’ll just watch when the Cardinals are at the plate and then I’ll go upstairs and mess around for a minute. And when I think they’ve probably got them out…the worse thing about that is when you’ve come back and they’ve just scored three runs.”
