A Gross Opinion On The Julius Peppers Saga
March 19, 2009 – 10:03 am by Jimmy ShapiroCarolina Panthers defensive lineman Julius Peppers has made it clear he wants to be traded. He says he wants to play in a 3-4 system and it definitely seems like this is about more than just money. He generally wants out of Carolina and feels like he needs a fresh start.
Speculation has run rampant after a person close to Peppers leaked the information that Julius was interested in playing for the New England Patriots or the Dallas Cowboys. Pro Football Talk has some good information on the rumors.
Since it’s rare to hear guys outside of TO discussing themselves wanting to be traded, we have to settle for the next best thing, their teammates. 2009 Pro Bowler Jordan Gross joined Primetime with the Packman on WFNZ in Charlotte and discussed the possibilities of Julius Peppers not being in Carolina for the 2009 NFL Season. It was refreshing to her his candor on the subject.
On the trade rumors concerning Julius:
“I don’t know, it’s a crazy situation. With the second round pick (from the New England Patriots) I would think we would be looking for more than that, and at the same time he’s not coming easy with that high tag and the Patriots especially have a lot of free agents coming up next year, big guys, so cap room might be an issue for them.”
On what would make the trade fair with New England in Gross’ eyes:
“I think the Patriots need to give us a second rounder and then throw in their former head of filming that they had. Next time we get into the playoffs we can have a little bit of an advantage.”
