Checking In With Andrew Bynum’s Injury
March 19, 2009 – 7:07 am by Michael BeanWith the 2008-2009 NBA Playoffs just around the corner, let’s check in with injured Los Angeles Lakers C Andrew Bynum to see how the rehabilitation of his knee is progressing. Bynum, whose last game was on the last day of the calendar year in 2008 against the Grizzlies, hasn’t exactly been missed by the Lakers as they plod along towards another playoff run later this spring, but most would agree that the Lakers’ chances of taking that final push and helping Phil Jackson win a 10th ring as a coach are much higher if the talented young center is available come playoff time. Bynum joined ESPN Radio Los Angeles to update his knee.
On when he anticipates going back on the court to test his rehabbed knee:
“Really testing it? That’s probably still a couple weeks away, but we’re transitioning to the court right now. Friday will be the first day back on the court.”
On the severity of this injury compared to the one he was dealing with at this time last year:
“This injury’s way, way, way more mild than the injury I dealt with last year. Obviously for one, I don’t need any surgery. Last year I definitely did. And number two is everything going straight and backwards is 100% fine and I’m able to run and do all those things. It’s just a little bit of lateral movement things that I have issues with.”
His take on why the Lakers have blown several leads in recent games:
“Just being young. Guys going out there and getting relaxed.”
And is there a game he has circled on the schedule that he’d like to come back for?
“Nope, just some time mid-April.”
