Mark Sanchez is Everywhere
April 21, 2009 – 9:30 am by Jimmy ShapiroI’ve been doing this site for more than four months now and I haven’t seen one athlete interviewed as frequently on sports radio as Mark Sanchez. Give Sprint credit as they’re pimping the hell out of him and his NFL Draft blog. He’s been on at least 35 sports radio interviews. Truthfully, it will be good for Sanchez as quarterbacks better get used to being in the public eye. His stock has been rising the last few weeks and he could anywhere from the fourth pick in the draft to the nineteenth pick in the draft.
If he’s halfway decent in the NFL, he will become an advertiser’s dream. Good looking, smart, and bilingual, he has the chance to become as popular as Oscar de la Hoya with the ladies and become the hero of Spanish speaking football fans. One of Mark Sanchez’s many interviews was with WSCR in Chicago.
Why he won’t be in New York for the draft
“It was so exciting to think about but when I really thought about it with my family, we thought it would be best to stay at home and relax and just hang with the family. My grandma is also 92 so it’s tough for her to move.”
Are the Lions negotiating with him?
“That’s tough information to disclose there but it’s all up in the air at this point. There’s a lot going on and I can’t quite give away my cards too early.”
Sanchez on playing in Detroit, Pete Carroll thinking he should stay at USC, and the full interview after the jump.
On Detroit:
“It sounds like they have their head pointed in the right direction. They know where they’re headed and what’s going on and what it takes to get there. Their team has really bought into their philosophy. I saw them workout the other day and they look great.”
Would he like to be a part of that?
“I’d be flattered if they invite me to be a part of that. That’d be great.”
On Carroll’s opinion that he should stay at USC for one more year:
“I told him I respected his opinion but this is a situation where I’m making this decision for myself and I need to live it out to be the right decision for me. Once he saw that there was resolve in my decision and I was serious about it, I was honest and upfront with him about it, he totally supported me ever since.”
