Don’t Be Too Quick To Judge Michael Crabtree
April 23, 2009 – 9:45 am by Tas MelasAs the NFL draft approaches this weekend, there will always be that typical story of the player that has character issues. ‘Don’t take that guy, he thinks he’s too big for the sport, he’ll never work out.’ There are articles circulating about Michael Crabtree’s ego and arrogance level. Although, many consider him one of the top five prospects, some writers suggest he is to be avoided.
I would like to have a cup of java with Michael, sit down and discuss life, see how he looks at things. Maybe he drives a hybrid, maybe he’s seen Mount Kilimanjaro, maybe he runs backwards when he takes out his dog. I assume NFL scouts are speaking to him (and others around him) to truly get to know the type of person that is potentially entering their locker room. Michael Crabtree joined KLAC in Los Angeles to discuss his recent injury, why he entered the draft, and if he should be compared to Terrell Owens or Chad Johnson.
On the stress fracture in his foot:
“I didn’t know I had it until the combine.”
On what he could run in the 40 when healthy:
“I could run at least 4.4 and under but the 40 don’t matter.”
On the criticism he has faced:
“I’m just trying to be the best I can be. That’s all that’s on my mind; I’m so focused right now it don’t make no sense.”
On the decision to declare for the draft:
“The challenge of playing college football – I was getting to a point where I was having 2 and 3 and 4 people on me. I’m ready for the next challenge.”
Is he going to be an attention-getter like Ocho Cinco or T.O.?
“My attention isn’t coming from talking, it’s coming from stuff on the field. It’s a different kind of attention that you’re talking about, but all of those guys are good players. Everybody’s different in their own way and a lot of people don’t understand that. I feel like you can’t compare me to none of those guys and you can’t compare none of those guys to me unless you’re talking about skills. Personality is different.”
