Bill Polian Surprises With Selection Of Donald Brown

April 30, 2009 – 8:05 am by Michael Bean

Those who know better realize it’s never a good idea to judge a Bill Polian draft class until at least two years have passed. This year’s should be no different. Many pundits thought the Colts were in the market for a RB in this year’s draft. Very few however identified Connecticut RB Donald Brown as a likely candidate to be selected by the Colts in the 1st round.

Brown, the NCAA’s lone 2000+ yard rusher from a year ago, joined 1070 The Fan in Indianapolis to talk about the surprise of being drafted so high, and the honor and excitement he’s feeling as he gets ready to join Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts in 2009 and beyond.

On pre-draft talk and mock drafts:

“No, I didn’t care one bit.  I didn’t look into the mock drafts and I didn’t care what people had to say because they weren’t the ones making the picks so it really didn’t matter.”

On his running style and who it’s similar to:

“I’d say Tiki Barber.  Tiki Barber was a great running back.  He wasn’t the flashiest running back but he moved the chains and he could run inside the tackles and outside the tackles and catch the ball out of the backfield.  He’s a great guy off the field as well, so I think Tiki Barber.”
