Housh Is Excited About the Seahawks, Hasselbeck and Not Being in Cincy

T.J. Houshmandzadeh was a huge coup for the Seattle Seahawks — they finally have a decent receiver not named Deion Branch or Nate Burleson (both overrated) for Matt Hasselbeck to throw to.

And Housh is equally excited, since he doesn’t have to be in Cincinnati anymore. Sure, Carson Palmer has a bigger arm, but he’s going to see tons of catches in a west coast offense this year. And he was on with KJR in Seattle from Seahawks mini-camp to discuss the differences in the two teams and how he and Hasselbeck are adjusting to one another.

On the importance of this minicamp:

“It’s not as important as the minicamp we had a few weeks back. Today will just be overview.”

On the differences between Cincy and Seattle:

“So far, not very much – football is universal. We pretty much run the same plays, we just call them different. The only thing is different, is we’ll call the exact same play here complete opposite the way we used to call it in Cincinnati. So it takes me back and I’m thinking how we used to run it in Cincinnati, and that’s the hardest part.”

On adjusting to playing with a new quarterback:

“Right now it’s hard to tell, because I’ve practiced numerous times with Carson and worked out with Carson in the offseason nearly every day … I think the offense we have with Coach Knapp will be a little different than what Matt is used with Coach Holmgren, so that will be different. But like I say, football is universal and I think Coach Knapp is going to have me do some things like I did in Cincinnati that I was successful at, so me and Matt will have to get on the same page with that, but it shouldn’t be hard. The ball jumping off Matt’s hands might not be as strong as Carson, but he can let it go now.”

On whether he was a product of the offense or is a legit No. 1 WR:

“Nah, if they throw me the ball, that’s what they’re going to get.”

On playing the slot and being a “great slot receiver”:

“See, I caught the majority of my balls out of the slot, and a lot of that – I’m glad that they played me in the slot in Cincinnati because no one else could play it so I think I was forced to play the slot more than I would have liked. Initially, when I got in Cincinnati I played the slot because Peter Warrick was an outside receiver, so once he left we had no one else to play the slot but me and I was able to just play it. It wasn’t something I was taught it was just a feeling. … Here we have a bunch of guys that can play the slot so I’ll be moving around more than I did in Cincinnati.”
