Antonio Freeman Weighs In On Favre
May 7, 2009 – 10:31 am by Michael Bean
You know the story by now – it happens every summer lately. Brett Favre’s contemplating a return to the game. This year, the team in play is the Minnesota Vikings. For now though, let’s hear from one of his Favre’s old Green Bay teammates, Antonio Freeman, to hear what he has to say about the latest and the greatest in the neverending soap opera that is Brett Favre’s career.
On why Favre is doing this same song and dance again:
“For a lot of us guys, it’s what we’ve been doing since we were teenagers. And that’s what makes us tick. He realizes that all he has is space, and free time and a lot of money in the bank. And sometimes that’s just not enough for a lot of us, especially for a competitor like Brett.”
Does he think Favre still have it?
“Yeah he still has it. Like I said, when you transfer from one system to another, especially at the quarterback position – he has to know everything and where everybody’s going to be – it’s a tough transition and I think he had six weeks to do it. So that’s really not a lot of time to make a transition like that especially in a competitive league like the NFL.”
His thoughts on Favre alienating himself completely from the Packers organization and the fans there who supported him for so many years:
“What’s he supposed to do? Be a backup to Aaron Rodgers? The people told him last year that they didn’t want him. The guy still has a burning desire to play the game.”"
