DeJuan Blair Wouldn’t Mind Being Drafted By The ’07-’08 Suns
May 26, 2009 – 9:30 am by Tas MelasDeJuan Blair is a beast of a man and there is talk the Phoenix Suns could select the undersized power forward when they pick at the 14 spot in next month’s draft. If he does get to Arizona, he’ll be very surprised when he sees who’s on his team. When he mentions his potential Phoenix mates in this interview, he notes Raja Bell as a nice component of the squad. He’ll soon find out that Bell was traded to the Bobcats last December, but I’m sure Raja’s there in spirit. At 6’7″ in the whistle happy NBA, how will the Pittsburgh star fair? Would he have been more successful in football? Yes, the hypothetical questions which have no relevance need to be asked, but the man looks like a football player – I’m not sure he’ll have a long career of banging and out-hustling NBA players. Blair joined KTAR in Phoenix to discuss his preferred position in the big league, his potential teammates in Phoenix, and whether or not he considers himself a tough player.
On if he’ll play power forward (4) or center (5) in the NBA:
“I can play the 4, but I really don’t care. Everybody don’t think I got the height and everything, but if you put me in that position I’m gonna play it, so hopefully whatever team I get on will give me an opportunity to do me, give me the opportunity to play the 4, the 5, and I’ll try to bring what I can bring to the team.”
On if he considers himself to be a tough player:
“Yeah, I would say that because I think my toughness makes up for my height. I don’t really get bothered too much about who I’m going against and things like that because it’s a lot of great players out there. Like all my instructors tell me, there’s gonna be players better than you. You gotta take that in mind and if you bring the toughness then you’re not afraid of them, you’re not afraid to play against them, you can play against them to your best ability and that’s what I bring to the table.”
Is he willing to wait for the offense to be run through him:
“Oh yeah, that’s me. The points will come. I’m just there to rebound, I’m willing to do whatever and if you’ve got a great player in Amare Stoudemire and a great point guard in Steve Nash then you got the other attributes with Shaq and Barbosa and Bell, y’all have got a beautiful squad and if I be with them then I think I can’t do nothing but make it better. They’re a heck of a team, I love to watch them.”
