Kurt Warner Doesn’t Want The Rams To Leave St. Louis

June 5, 2009 – 9:15 am by Tas Melas

As Kurt Warner points out below, those two teams he took to the Super Bowl in St. Lou were something else.  The ‘Greatest Show on Turf’ was the one team that every football fan liked regardless of his or her allegiance to other squads.  Now, we’ve got news that the Rams are up for sale and could very well leave the city.  In today’s NFL – from an outsider’s perspective at least – it would seem the Rams could survive in St. Louis if they had an ownership group that wanted to keep there, and, that’s exactly what Warner wants to see.  The old gray beard has a special spot for St. Louis in his heart and doesn’t want the blue and gold to go.  Warner joined ESPN 101 in St. Louis to reminisce about the Super Bowl days with the Rams, why he didn’t have to do as much on those teams, why the franchise should stay, and what made the Rams different than the team he just took to the Super Bowl in Arizona.

What are your thoughts on keeping the Rams in St. Louis?

“I think it’s important, I think it’s such a huge part of the community – over the last ten years or so it’s become more of an intricate part.  It would be hard to see that team leave St. Louis.  Being a part of that and the special times that I had there, I wanna see the team stay there.  I’m hoping that something can be done, an ownership group can come in from there, or at least somewhere else that’s committed to keeping it there, because I think it is a special place, great fans, great sports town, and deserves a football team.”

What are the differences in your Super Bowl runs between Arizona and St. Louis?

“The one I thing I’ll say about being in St. Louis, there were so many great players apart of that team.  I think that’s what made it a bit easier (than the Arizona Super Bowl run), there were so many great leaders, I wasn’t counted on to do as much, especially be a younger guy in the league, my first year starting.  So, I think, from that perspective it was easier because so many pieces were in place.”
