Amare Stoudemire Should Be A Politician

June 8, 2009 – 7:45 am by Jimmy Shapiro

Amare Stoudemire created a buzz two weeks ago when he did a radio tour to promote his work with an eyecare company.  When he was in Washington DC, he said he could see himself playing for the Wizards.  Coincidentally, he did the same thing in New York with the Knicks and in Chicago with the Bulls.  He’s a radio station’s and blogger’s dream.  Most players won’t let you speculate on a trade to their city, but Amare was eating up the attention.

He’s an amazing talent that has been muted this past few seasons due to the overwhelming media presence of Shaq.  I think Amare will be traded in the off-season and it will be tough for the Suns to get equal value for him.  My good friends Gambo and Ash who are two of the most dialed in radio hosts in the country have said the Suns have had discussions with the Celtics and Wizards about a trade for Amare.

After Amare created much talk in the Valley of the Sun with his recent interviews, it was just a matter of time before Amare (like a good politician) went on the radio in Phoenix to show his love for the city and the fans.  Amare joined KTAR in Phoenix

On his future with the Suns:

“It all depends on what the Suns want to do. Personally, I love this city. I love playing for the Phoenix Suns, it’s like a home away from home. I’m totally comfortable here and I’d like to remain here but it’s all up to what they want to do…My loyalty is to the Phoenix Suns and it’s been like that since my rookie year. Right now it’s Phoenix Suns Nation until anything changes.”

Does he feel appreciated?

“I think so, for the most part. The fans for sure. The fans love me and vice versa. I think the Suns fans definitely want me to stick around and I want to stick around also. Suns management, that’s something we’ve just got to discuss. I’ve been on the trade block the past few times so that’s something we’ve got to discuss.”

Where he’d like to go if he was traded:

“It’s whatever’s clever. It’s all about winning the title so whatever team is fully equipped and ready to win a title, I’m down for. That’s my ultimate goal right now, to have that ring under my belt, so whatever team I go to I’m definitely trying to raise the element of the game and also bring a championship to the city.”
