Chris Paul On His Ranking In The League And Dwight’s Tight Tank Tops
June 12, 2009 – 8:00 am by Tas MelasThis man will be back in the MVP talk next season (and could have been this year). Really, he’ll be it in every year for years to come as long as his team is decent. The Hornets under performing, although they made the playoffs, was the only reason he wasn’t included this year. He is by far the best point guard in the league, but he can improve his scoring touch – being the competitor that he is, he’ll use this offseason to get better and get back in to the talks of being one of the best players in the league. It’s interesting to hear him speak about where he sees himself in relation to the league’s best (as seen below). As for his supporting cast? Eek. That’s a question Hornets’ brass wouldn’t think they’d have to be pondering so soon after signing a few players to long term deals, but it is a very real worry. Paul joined Dan LeBetard on 790 The Ticket to discuss where he sees himself along side Wade, ‘Bron, and Kobe, the moment he knew he made it, and to mock Dwight’s small press conference attire.
What was the moment that made you feel like you actually arrived in the NBA?’
“On the court, standing beside Shaq on the free throw line, I was like, ‘Man, I’m really here. This guy is huge.’ Off the court, um, maybe when I got my first car. (Host: You bought it or they just gave it to you?) I bought it, they didn’t just give it to me. I wish. (Host: Sometimes they give it to you if for an endorsement deal). I was endorsed my rookie year or was it my second year in the league by Toyota, and they gave me a car but when the deal was up they took it back.”
Do you think Dwight Howard wears extra small tank tops to those press conferences on purpose?
“Most definitely. I’ve never seen Dwight in anything other than a tank top… He’s a big dude but those (tank tops) might be smalls, I don’t know… He’s a big guy and remember he’s 7-foot.”
Are you as good as Wade, LeBron, and Kobe?
“I think so, I think so. I tell people all the time, one thing that all those guys have over me, definitely is just that dunk factor. I get in to the lane just as much as D-Wade and ‘Bron and those guys but when they get in to the lane with their athleticism, a lot of the time they just take off to dunk and guys don’t even challenge them at the rim. When I get in to the lane, everyone’s eyes light up and they wanna come over and block the shot.”

CP3 is a good player and should be for the next 4-5 seasons but hes gonna fade the remainder of his career ala Franchise francis, Damon, etc. Deron’s got that longhaul look, hes gonna be playing at a high level 15 years when its all set and done and people will look back and say D-Will shouldve gone 1st over in 2005.

CP3 is a great point guard. 1st pg to average 20+ppg and 10+apg in 15 years. MVP runner up. Has any point guard, especially one with such a diminuitive stature ever end a season with a PER of 30? In this article he didn’t say he was BETTER than anyone so all you Kobe/Wade/Bron fan boys don’t go getting your panties all in a bunch. Berryxl, Deron isn’t a superstar. Dude hasn’t even been an All-Star let alone a superstar. Anyone knows why the coaches never selected him to at least be an All-Star? He managed to get 2nd team All-NBA once but not an All-Star. What’s up with that? Deron is a great point guard though. He and the Jazz give Paul and the Hornets trouble. He gets blown by easily by smaller faster guards but usually when they get by Deron, AK47 or Boozer or some other Jazz player will be waiting for the smaller guard. I’ll be glad when the Hornets put better players around Paul. Jones, the consensus now and will most likely always be one that says Paul should’ve been the #1 pick in the 05 draft. Deep down inside you know that.

One more thing, apparently seeing as he’s been top 5 in MVP voting over the past 2 years, obviously he must be AS good as the players he was questioned about. Perhaps not better but AS good, yes.

WHAT a huge ego lol. I mean, it’s ok to think so and all, but saying this just makes him sound like an overconfident punk. “Oh yeah, I definitely think I’m as good as them.” At least be humble about it man. There is NO way he is as good as Lebron James. Just NO way. This guy is a joke. At least say something like “well, those guys are extraordinary players, but I think I’m pretty good as well. As far as being as good as them, I will let other people judge that. All I can do is go out there and give it my best and worry about winning, and not comparing my self to other great players.” Yup, could of said something like that. But nope, he has to make him self look silly and arrogant by saying he is as good as Lebron (Wade and Kobe are great, but I think Lebron right now is hands down the best player).
