The Ron Artest Comedy Show Continues

June 19, 2009 – 10:45 am by Jimmy Shapiro

Here at SRI we’ve been posting a lot of Ron Artest interviews.  The reason is simple, as Seinfeld’s Bania said, “That’s gold, Jerry! Gold!”.  Artest is comedy gold.  Not sure if he tries to be funny, but his stories and his bizarre life are just intriguing to me.

KHTK host Carmichael Dave has built a kinship with Ron Artest and Artest one of the most polarizing and outlandish athletes in sports never fails to entertain.  Listening to these guys during an interview is like listening to two old pals over a beer.  You rarely if ever see this type of relationship between a sports radio host and an athlete.  In this interview Artest talks about his buddies smoking blunts while playing golf, steroids, and twitter.

On Twitter:

I think it’s fun. People like it better if you get a chance to talk directly to your fans, know exactly what you’re doing, what’s going on. When people message you, you can just text message everybody. It’s kind of cool…I have fun on Twitter. Not everything I say is going to be the right thing on Twitter though.”

His offseason plan:

“I didn’t lift weights in like a couple summers. This year I’m lifting. Next year I’m trying to come back very, very strong. Bigger. Without steroids.”

On steroids:

“People that use steroids, I don’t hate them. I don’t hate people who do steroids, I don’t have anything against people who do steroids. I wouldn’t advise using steroids but I don’t care, I’m not going to hate some that uses steroids. The media is just killing people just because they use steroids. They did steroids, they did a bad thing, they shouldn’t have done it, they get penalized and that’s it, I don’t hate them. But I’m not doing them, buddy!…I never understood why the baseball players just don’t do creatine. I think because the steroids actually make you stronger. But I never understood why they just don’t do creatine. It’s legal, you just workout and get really strong, the muscles increase in there and they become stronger. I never understood, I guess steroids are the easy way out. It might be easier to do.”

On his experience with golf:

“I never really played golf. I played golf a long time ago with my friends, it was like some ghetto golf place. Everyone was smoking weed on the golf course. It was real funny. They were just hitting golf balls and smoking marijuana, I couldn’t believe it. I was like, “Hold on, this doesn’t seem right. I’m used to golf like MJ and professional guys. These guys are just out there rolling up blunts.” I had to leave.”
