Charlie Villanueva: It’s Kinda Looking Like I Won’t Be In Milwaukee
June 24, 2009 – 11:15 am by Tas Melas
ESPN Milwaukee had soon-to-be restricted Bucks’ free agent, Charlie Villanueva, on to get his thoughts about Milwaukee trading for cap room by shipping Richard Jefferson to the Spurs. Charlie was asked: Is Milwaukee clearing space so they have enough dough to offer you? Then, the host broke the news to Villanueva that the Bucks traded for young power forward, Amir Johnson, in another small deal. Villanueva then reacts to Milwaukee adding a player that plays the same position as him.
What were your initial thoughts on the trade?
“I was actually very surprised; I didn’t think Milwaukee would pull such a move. I thought RJ (Richard Jefferson) would be around for a little bit but I understand the financial situation that they’re in. I was a little shocked at first. It’s gonna be an interesting summer.”
When the trade happened, did you think the Bucks are clearing cap space to sign you?
“That’s definitely the first thing that came in to mind. I knew what the financial situation that Milwaukee was in, the fact that they make some room brings questions: If it’s for me or Ramon Sessions. It’s all speculation ’cause you realize at the end of the day, you don’t know exactly what’s gonna happen. Milwaukee, I’ve yet to talk to them so I don’t know exactly what’s on their mind.”
His reaction to the host informing him the Bucks acquired Amir Johnson:
“The fact that you bring that news to me – Amir Johnson’s going to the Bucks – there is a lot of bigs in that position. Just like I said, I have not talked to Milwaukee, so I don’t what they’re thinking or what’s in their minds as far as me, what’s their plans. But, it’s kinda looking like I won’t be there if those many bigs are there, but at the end of the day, you don’t know what’s gonna happen.”
