Chipper Jones Tells Umpire He Has A ‘Porn Stach’

Chipper Jones kind-of/sort-of wigged out on Sunday at Fenway with the Braves playing the Red Sox, and while his ejection didn’t cost the Braves the game, the missed call by Bill Hohn that got Eric O’Flaherty ejected probably did.
And after O’Flaherty got tossed, Bobby Cox and Chipper got worked up and eventually Chipper told Hohn that he had a ‘porn stach,’ at least according to his interview with 790 the Zone. He also talks Tommy Hanson, if you’re interested in non-mustache related material.
On the ump’s mustache, profanity and Chipper’s comments:
“Ummmm, there might have been something referring to a ‘porn stach,’ yeah. … I didn’t use any profanity, I was merely stating … how could he make that call in that situation. And he started walking out from home plate with that look on his face, like, “If you say another word I’m going to throw you out.” And that’s when I went over and said “You were looking for a fight and you got one. You were baiting and you were looking for one.” And I just kept baiting it and they rung Bobby and I guess he didn’t like that I was so close and pointed at him, you know, saying that was ‘your fault.’ And whenever I pointed, he threw me out of the game and that’s when I let loose with the expletives.”
On umps being confrontational:
“I guess that’s all we’d like as players is for umps to be less confrontational. Just say, ‘Eric, I missed the call, I apologize’ and stay behind the plate. Guys can at least accept that. I have so much respect for the Randy Marshes and the Tim McClellans because they’ll come up to you and say ‘Did you see the replay? Did I miss the call?’ and you’ll tell ‘em, ‘Yeah, you missed the call’ and they’ll say, ‘I’m sorry.’
On Tommy Hanson:
“Well, the fact that he’s pitched three games — his first one was a rough one — he’s 2-0 and to be quite honest with you, I think he’d be the first to tell you that he hasn’t pitched all that well. To go out and be 2-0, throw a shutout his last time out in Cincinnati — to throw a shutout with less than your best stuff, is pretty darn good. (Ed. Note: Chipper’s interview was before Hanson dominated the Yankees.) As he gets more and more starts under his belt, he’ll be more and more comfortable.”
