It is a free country. Brees can choose to disbelieve that any of the Guantanamo captives have been tortured -- even when judges have ruled that they have been tortured.

But his comparison to convicts in US prisons is extremely unfair. Convicts in US prisons ended up there after a FAIR TRIAL. After seven years only two dozen of the captives have been charged.

The sad and embarrassing truth is that since the Supreme Court forced a judicial review of the allegations against the captives the Department of Justice has been folding. In two thirds of the cases the Department of Justice has quietly admitted, after seven years of detention, the USA never had any evidence against these men in the first place.

Other commentators say Brees is a real nice guy. I am glad to hear it. But he should stay out of politics unless he is willing to do way more homework.

It is important to understand the difference between a convicted felon and a potentially innocent man who has not even been charged.
