Josh Childress: You Might See Me On The Hawks This Season

July 15, 2009 – 4:45 am by Tas Melas

It seems like this decision has been up in the air for a while, but it all ends today.  Childress has to make a decision by sometime today whether or not he is coming back to the NBA to play with the Hawks.  There were the Milwaukee Bucks rumors out there, then he was assuredly headed back to Athens, but in his words below, he can still come back.  Those words are spoken with great maturity; always a bit of a deeper thinker than your average athlete, the simple answer last year at this time would have been to stay in the U.S., but Josh took all things in to account and headed over to Europe.  Listening to the man, he will definitely do the same this time around, but he does hint at a return to the only NBA team he’s known.  Josh Childress joined 790 The Zone in Atlanta to discuss his European experience, the possibility of a second career in the NBA, and the procedures he must go through if he wants to make that a reality.

Is there a chance we’ll see you return to the Hawks this season?

“You might.  You know what?  I have until the 15th (of July) to decide if I’m going back to Greece or not.  So, you’ll know pretty soon what I’m gonna do.  I can’t really say right now, you know, but you might.”

What’s the procedure you have to go through if you want to return?  Is it just, ‘I wanna come back, give me a contract?’

“Obviously, it’s not that simple; you and I know it’s not that simple.  I gotta talk to Mr. Sund and talk to a few people and see what we’re talking about, see what kind of offer, and all that stuff.  It’s not as simple as just me saying I wanna come back, what can I get?  It takes a little more than that, yeah, like I said, we’ll see.”

Are you happy with your decision to play in Greece?

“I’m happy with my move.  It was an experience, a learning experience; you know, I feel like I grew as a person and as a player.  That’s something that you can’t really put a price on.  Just being to travel the world, see different things, and learn different people, you know, just take in different cultures.  As much as money plays a part in people’s lives, that’s not what the world is all about – or my world is all about – so that was a great experience for me like I said.”
