Greg Jennings Happy With New Contract, Ready To Concentrate On Just Football

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings finally got the contract he wanted this offseason. Now he can concentrate on football and helping the Packers get back to the playoffs after a disappointing 6-10 season a year ago. Jennings joined ESPN Radio Milwaukee to talk about how working with Larry Fitzgerald was an eye opening experience and how though he may not be excited for training camp at the moment, once he gets there with his teammates, how the excitement will quickly build.
On his contract situation this offseason prior to finally working out a deal with the Packers:
“You know, honestly there has always been an ease but there’s always been at the same time, just I wish it would get done and get over with so I don’t have to go through the what’s up with the contract thing. And I really think that’s the number one thing that gets the athlete, is having to discuss it with the media. Because they’re going to rehash everything every time you see them. It’s like, just leave it alone and maybe I might be able to go about my business without having to think about it. But it was obviously something I was excited got done, got taken care of. And my biggest thing is I didn’t want to become a distraction to the team. Obviously we wanted to get it done discretely and make sure all sides were happy and satisfied, and we were able to do that. I’m just glad it’s done and over with.”
On if the team will fare better this year now that there’s no Brett Favre drama to worry about like there was last summer:
“Again, I’m one of those guys who hates excuses, so I’m not going to say that yes, we were distracted by that. I’m sure that people are going to say that for us and we could easily say that that was a distraction and just hang that over our hats for having the 6-10. But we still have to go out there and play football on Sundays, and regardless of what the outcome was, what the situation may have been, we still had to perform and we didn’t do that this past year. But with that being said, this year we have a clean slate. We know what to expect with the quarterback. We already had confidence. We built even more confidence in our quarterback Aaron Rodgers. You know, we’re really excited about what the defense is doing. Coach Capers has got those guys flying around all sides of the field. They’re a very aggressive and attacking defense now, whereas in the past we were like what are they doing? But it’s definitely going to be an exciting year for us.”
On his recent work with Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald:
“Let me comment on that, I’m going to tell you, this guy, the reason he’s so good is his work ethic. His work ethic is second to none. I don’t really talk about guys like this - this guy has earned everything he has gotten and accomplished. I mean, this morning he texted me and said I’m a grinder, I’m working harder than you. I ran twenty 110s. I mean, that’s how competitive he is. Every day he’s been texting me about what he’s doing, if I’m doing something. I mean, I thought I worked hard. I went up there and I’m like, you really opened my eyes. Really opened my eyes. I worked hard but he really pushes himself to the limit. To the max. And it’s like, you don’t find guys that are that well on top but are still climbing to get higher and higher. I just can’t say enough about this guy and I don’t really put guys on that pedestal but he is deserving of everything he gets.”

Saw this linked from the ESPN NFC West blog. Pretty sure you guys misquoted him here, I’m guessing he meant “20 110’s” as in 20 110 yard sprints. 110’s are a very common offseason running workout…although most people wouldn’t do 20. A lot of teams (both college and in the pros) use 110’s as part of a conditioning test.
21 10’s wouldn’t really be a workout, nor would it be something that the best receiver in the NFL would brag about!
