Visanthe Shiancoe: Sometimes I See A White Guy, Sometimes I See A Black Guy
August 13, 2009 – 5:30 am by Tas MelasVisanthe Shiancoe is one funny man. I doubt he found it very funny when he was caught with his pants down – literally – on national TV last season, but he’s taken it all in stride, so much so that he can joke about it now. Speaking of taking it stride, it’s interesting to hear Shiancoe’s opinion on what Tarvaris Jackson had to deal with last season and how he shares the blame with the rest of the offense. It’s so easy as fans to rip the quarterback a new one and just totally neglect the importance of the other ten on the field. We do forget that it’s a team game because so much of the pre and post-game talk surrounds the quarterback, but as Visanthe points out, a QB can feel like he’s out there alone as well. Shiancoe kills the mic on Hardcore Sports Radio while discussing his indifference to the quarterback controversy, his hate for the Brett Favre drama, and the hilarity that was the “no towel” incident.
On not caring who ‘s throwing him the ball:
“This quarterback controversy continues; I don’t know who’s ahead and who’s behind but all I know is that the ball comes to me. Sometimes I see a white guy and sometimes I see a black guy. (Host: That’s the difference, the separation so far: one’s white and one’s black, other than that, they’re kinda the same). Exactly, just a pigment of the skin, ya know.”
On Tarvaris Jackson’s situation last season:
“He was put in to, I feel, an awkward position last year. I feel that he came in struggling a little bit, but he came back really strong towards the end. And, just like I’ve been telling people before, it’s kinda hard throwing the ball accurately when people are in your face, centers are blitzing, defensive coordinators know they can rattle him easily. That falls upon us as blockers – me as a tight end, blocking, and us as wide receivers running our routes and getting perfect depth, run our hot routes, etcetera. It’s just a collective thing, it can’t just fall on one guy.”
On male porn actors taking stimulants and the whole picture ordeal he went through last year:
“I’m pretty sure they take some stuff, you know, I’m pretty sure they take something, but not to say I’m gonna do anything like that… I’m staying away from the porn business, man. After the shot, about two out three people that first meet me, they bring up the shot. Just like I’ve told everybody, at least I didn’t just get out the pool, at least I didn’t just get out the pool.”
On being relieved the whole Brett Favre situation is over:
“That affects everybody, that definitely affects everybody. Thank God it’s over! The ‘Favrepalooza’ is over. We dealt with that for months, upon months, upon months of not knowing what’s going on. At least we got solid information finally that he’s not coming. So, we can move along with that; we don’t wanna think about that anymore. No one even mentions that, it’s ancient history and we’ve gotta move on. You can’t move on and keep on thinking about the past.”
