Maurice Jones-Drew: “As long as my teammates believe in me, that’s all that really matters”

This post was written by Zach Krantz of WQAM in Miami.  MJD has exploded this season so far for 282 yards rushing, 13 catches for 71 yards and 4 touchdowns so far.   His team not so much, they are 1-2 on the season with losses to Indy and Arizona before winning last Sunday on the road against Houston.   MJD has his best game of this young season on Sunday rushing for 119 yards and getting three touchdowns in the Jags win.   Not so bad for a guy who goes by the following nicknames to say a few: Pocket Hercules, The Human Bowling Ball, The Human Pinball, Oompa Loompa, MoJo, MoJo D, GoMoJo, Beast, and Mighty Mouse. I personally love Pocket Hercules.

MJD finally has his shot to take the running back load for the Jags with Fred Taylor being cut and signing with New England.   MJD has had very respectable seasons in his first three years and was anxious to get the ball as the number one guy this season.   He has been a great runner and a great pass catching running back and this year the offense will rely on him more than ever.   The Jags have the Titans at home this week in a game that both teams need badly.

MJD joins Myers and Hartman on Fox Sports Radio to talk about the win Sunday against the Texans, proving to the world that he is an every down back, the sense of urgency in the locker room for the team and his alma mater UCLA.

MJD talks about the keys to the game versus the Texans:

“We just stuck with the running game; we were in the game the whole time which is a good thing.  We had a balanced offense and that gave us opportunities to make plays both in the pass game and in the running game.”

On proving people wrong about he not being an every down back and carrying the load at RB:

“I really don’t care what other people say because they’re not playing with us.  As long as my teammates believe in me, that’s all that really matters, and we believe in each other.  This year has been a tough one so far, but we were able to pull out a tough victory and we got what we needed.

Asked if there is a sense of urgency for the team to save Jack Del Rio’s job:

“It’s not really about that anymore.  What’s going on is our General Manager is doing a great job of getting players here and we are playing with the attitude that we have to win and if you can’t do it, they are going to try and find someone who can do it.  And that’s a great attitude and so everybody’s bought into it and we are working hard.
