Channing Crowder: “I Am Going to be at the Forefront of the All the Junk Talking.”
October 8, 2009 – 9:40 am by Jimmy Shapiro
This post was written by Zach Krantz of WQAM in Miami. Channing Crowder isn’t one to hold himself back when it comes to the on field or off the field chatter. Crowder had a verbal battle with New York Jets Head Coach Rex Ryan in June about being the champions of OTA during the summer. They went back and forth in the media for days before Channing was told to back off by the Dolphins brass, a.k.a Bill Parcells. No one is immune to Channing’s trask talk. He even went after Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. Channing has been known for his mouth as well as his tackling back to his UF days.

This week is no different and brings us back to the June banter between him and Ryan. It’s Jets week in South Florida and finally the back and forth will come to an end and the teams will play. The Jets lost their first game of the season last weekend against the high powered Saints and the Dolphins got off the schneid with a destruction of the Bills. The off the field talk will fuel the week and if it’s not enough, the game will be on Monday Night Football for the country to see. This means Ryan or Crowder will look like the smart talker come next Tuesday morning.
Channing Crowder joined the Big O on WQAM in Miami to talk about Jets week, the banter between him and Rex Ryan and the preparation for the Jets and Rookie Quarterback Mark Sanchez.
Crowder asked if he has spoke with Rex Ryan anytime lately:
“Yeah I sent him a present the other day, a little nice basket with some stuff in it. And he sent me a thank you card, but nothing more than that.”
Asked about the rivalry between the Jets and Dolphins regardless of records:
“If we were both 0-15 going into the last game of the season, it’s going to be a game. Like you said, it’s a rivalry, it’s big. The implications of the game now just make it bigger. The fans love it. Between all the series’ I look into the stands to try and find the fights between Dolphins and Jets fans. It’s just fun to watch it. There’s so much energy from the fans, so much energy from the players, the hatred. Its football and I love it.”
Asked about the difference in Jets offense from last year to this year with rookie Mark Sanchez at QB:
“It changed the offense a little bit. He has got weapons, they are letting him get out there and play a little bit. They are not really putting the game in his hands. They are going to get it with the run, get the ball to Leon (Washington) the ball, which they were mad at last week for not getting him the ball a lot. They are going to get him the ball, he is a great playmaker. And have the Pro Bowler Thomas Jones run the ball and have Sanchez manage the clock. We want to get some pressure on him and any rookie you want to give him different looks and get some pressure in his face. And see how he deals with that pressure.”
Asked about how he thinks the trash talking will be on Monday night:
“Its going to be bad, it’s always bad. Mine and Rex in the offseason was just messing around. It’s just hatred because you play so much. It’s a division game and its big time, and we knocked them out of the playoffs last year and all that stuff. It’s going to be a pretty bad game and I am going to be at the forefront of the all the junk talking.”
