Floyd Mayweather Jr: “I Guess He is a Little Desperate. He took Steroids and He Won Championship Titles off Taking Steroids”

October 9, 2009 – 9:10 am by Jimmy Shapiro

This post was written by Zach Krantz of WQAM in Miami.  The best pound for pound fighter in the world right now is Floyd Mayweather Jr.  He has beaten almost all the best fighters in his era and some say until he beats Manny Pacquiao, he can’t “really” hold that title.  Mayweather’s record is 40-0 with 25 knockouts, he is as flashy as they come and has proven to everyone that he could be considered one of the best boxers of all time.

Mayweather has also branched out of the boxing world to become a music label owner, had a stint with the WWE, participated in Dancing With the Stars, and has had harsh words for the fighters in UFC and MMA fighters in general.  One thing about Floyd is that he is not afraid to run his mouth.  Criticized for that on occasion, the one thing he has done in his career is back it up.  Ask anyone from his era in boxing about that and they will have nothing to say.  Well maybe except Manny Pacquiao who will be a massive payday for Floyd if he can beat Miguel Cotto next month.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. joined  WQAM in Miami and talked about his last win over Marquez, the post show confrontation with Shane Mosley and coming back to prove he is the best pound for pound fighter in the history of boxing.

Floyd asked about Shane Mosley confronting him after his last win:

“Things happened in the sport of boxing.  Sometimes you have to be mature about certain situations and I like to handle situations in certain ways.   Only thing I want to do is beat the best that’s in my era.  You got a lot of people that are disrespectful, but you have to ignore it and just focus on what you have to do.”

Floyd then asked about Mosley ducking him for years and now wants to fight him:

“We tried to fight Shane in 1999 and from ’99 until 2006, we tried to get the fight and he turned me down.  So I guess all of a sudden he is 38 and his career is coming to an end, he has got five losses.  I guess he is a little desperate.  He took steroids, he won championship titles off taking steroids and I never said anything about that.  If I was taking anything like that, they would have blew it up huge.  But this is a guy who is taking steroids, but then complaining about another guy who is trying to put a cast in his glove.  Margarito was cheating and Shane was cheating.  I live my life a healthy way, train hard and work hard and that’s why I am the best at what I do.”

Asked how some boxing analysts wont crown him #1 pound for pound until he fights Pacquiao

“Well the thing is this, I come back to this sport and fight the #2 guy that’s pound for pound, and he’s the same guy who fought Pacquiao twice.  Pacquiao beat him by one point and one time they fought to a draw.  I am not here to rate myself; I just want to stay active.  The fans rate me as the best and I appreciate that and if I am not rated that, I am still going to continue to do what I do.”
