Les Miles and the LSU Tigers have a tough road to climb this Saturday as the Florida Gators come to Tiger Stadium. Tim Tebow’s concussion has been a big cause for concern for the Gators. They still haven’t showed their hand as to whether Tebow is going to play or not. I do know that when you have a concussion, loud noises really bother you so Florida better make sure he is wearing ear plugs. Tiger Stadium is going to be rocking Saturday night and noise will definitely be a factor. LSU is primed and ready to go after their huge, come-from-behind victory against the Georgia Bulldogs and their defense looks like a good match against the Florida offense. Las Vegas has tabbed Florida the favorite in the game but history has it that Saturday nights in Baton Rouge have been tough as of late. LSU has won 31 straight Saturday night games at Tiger Stadium. If I were a betting man, I would pick LSU to continue their home dominance and send the Gators home with their first loss of the season.
Les Miles joined KGOW in Houston to talk about whether they are planning to play Tim Tebow, the big win late in the Georgia game, the way the LSU defense played, the difference in this year’s Florida team compared to last year’s team, and what the environment at Tiger Stadium will be like Saturday night.
On whether they are planning to play Tim Tebow:
“We are preparing for the Florida offense. At this point in time I know that Florida is going to field a very capable quarterback. It is one of two guys. We are being prepared. It is imperfect and that is fine. Adjustments will be made game day and we are looking forward to playing.”
On the big win late in the Georgia game:
“It appears to me that the situation was exactly the same. In fact, they were penalized…they kicked off at the 15. The difference is they kicked off to LSU and LSU’s Trenton Holiday returned it across the 50. Then Charles Scott, again the LSU team, scores and we scored with about :23 seconds left. Them :46 seconds left so we scored and left them more time on the clock then we did. And then guess what we did? We were penalized for celebration. We kicked off from the 15 but the difference is that it was LSU that kicked off from the 15 and covered the kick instead of coming across the 50 they took it at the 30. Then several plays later Perry Riley, again LSU, makes the pick and that’s the game. Whine all you will. The difference was LSU.”
On the way the LSU defense played:
“They are playing with intensity. They have confidence. They are coming to work everyday. You have got a hard-nose personality growing on that defensive side.”
On the difference in this year’s Florida team compared to last year’s team:
“They are better on defense. They are a much better defense. They are really a sound, crisp, tackling defensive unit. They are better on defense without question.”
On what the environment at Tiger Stadium will be like Saturday night:
“It will be off of the charts. It will be an environment that will be a charged, game-night atmosphere and we are going to call those Tigers to play.”
