Chad Henne: “Luckily I Have Been in Some Pretty Big Games in My College Career and I Know How to Handle Myself Out There in Those Situations.”
October 12, 2009 – 8:45 am by Jimmy Shapiro
This post was written by Zach Krantz of WQAM in Miami. Chad Henne was drafted in the 2nd round in 2008 by the Dolphins to be the future of the team at quarterback. Chad Pennington was picked up by Miami before the start of the season and Henne was put on ice for awhile. The Fins made the best turnaround in NFL History with Pennington and it looked like Henne would have some more time to learn under Pennington. That didn’t last very long with Pennington going down in week 3 for the season.

Now it’s Henne’s team and he has a chance to earn this job for good. In his first start last week vs. the Bills, he managed the team and let Ronnie Brown run wild for the team’s first win of the season and the first as a starter for Henne. Chad Henne joins Jim Mandich on WQAM in Miami to talk about his second start, his first on MNF, what’s the difference in his prep for the game and what he thought about his first start against Buffalo.
Asked how the learning curve has sped up prepping now that he is the starter:
“It’s definitely been a big difference. Evaluating yourself out there on the field is the difference. Seeing what you could have done or where you could have put the ball or made a better decision. I think you see it on film and that’s the number one factor in watching yourself and evaluating is seeing it on film. And seeing what you can do with it. I studied a lot over the game and saw the goods and the bads and focused on the bads so I can improve this week.”
Asked about being on the sidelines during the wildcat formation on offense:
“I think we are definitely comfortable with it. I mean we practice it, in and out, I mean I will take a play or two off in practice and then go back in. We get accustomed to it in practice; it doesn’t really throw me off. It definitely is a helpful factor in our game and how we present the teams with our offense.”
Asked about his preparation for the New York Jets:
“Well I mean it’s definitely been a grind because you know the Jets bring a lot of pressure and different looks for us. I have been in the film room in and out all day. I think we are pretty well prepared, we have a good game plan going after them; you know we will see what happens.
Asked about how he feels going into his first start on Monday Night Football:
“Well it’s definitely going to be a big game. Obviously nerves will be going through me just like the first game. You know after the first play goes underneath your belt, everything calms down and everything’s out of you and you go play ball. Luckily I have been in some pretty big games in my college career and I know how to handle myself out there in those situations.”
