Jerricho Cotchery: “You Have to Win That Game, That’s What Super Bowl Teams Do”
October 14, 2009 – 8:45 am by Jimmy Shapiro
Jerricho Cotchery was the number one receiver on the New York Jets offense until a big trade was made bringing a disgruntled Braylon Edwards in from Cleveland. Cotchery now has some pressure off him as the number one guy and is a major threat for rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez on the Jets offense. The Jets lost to the Dolphins on Monday Night Football and Cotchery was listed as questionable leading up to the game. His stats after the game were questionable as well catching only one ball for four yards in the heartbreaking loss; newly acquired Braylon Edwards caught five balls for 64 yards and a touchdown.
Jerricho Cotchery joined WFAN in New York and talked about the recent acquisition of Braylon Edwards, the tough loss the Dolphins on Monday Night, his status because of his ankle injury, and the defense getting it corrected.

Asked about the trade that brought Edwards in and his game on Monday Night:
“He did a great job. He did a great job the entire week preparing and really studying the offense and really learning the details that fast. It speaks volumes about him and the type of guy he is. He came in and worked extremely hard and we tried to help him along because a lot of guys have been in the offense for a while so we know every position across the board. That’s what we expected of him, to go out there and show his talent, that’s the reason why we brought him in and he did a great job with that.”
Asked about the defense in the loss to Miami and Rex Ryan after the game:
“He (Ryan) was not in a good mood after the game. Like he said, he has never been a part of anything like that. The way we played last night wasn’t up to our standards. He said he was going to get it corrected and if guys are not going to be on board with it, they won’t be playing. We will bounce back; we have to make sure we are taking care of business in practice. I wasn’t around last much in practice last week so I don’t know how the defense was going about it practicing against the wildcat and other things like that. He said we were going to get it corrected in practice and we got to make sure we are evaluating ourselves and taking those steps to correct our preparation.”
Talking about the stretch of games before the rematch with Miami in two weeks:
“We have to win these games, especially if we are talking about the team we want to be. You have this Super Bowl talk and all of these things. At some point you’re going to have to win these games especially like last night (Monday) and the games everyone says you’re supposed to win. You have to win that game, that’s what Super Bowl teams do. These games are must wins and we have to go into the bye week feeling really good about the team, the team that we have and the goals we are trying to reach this season.”
