Eddie Royal: “You never know what you can do when you’re playing for each other.”

The Denver Broncos continued their unbeaten start to the NFL season with a huge 34-23 victory against division rival, the San Diego Chargers on Monday Night Football to move to 6-0. Eddie Royal was a big help for the big win, but not so much on offense or defense. Eddie Royal became only the 11th player in NFL history – the first for the Broncos – to return a kick-off and a punt for touchdowns in the same game. His 235 total special-teams return yards represented a franchise record and marked the second-highest game total in the NFL this season.
Royal admittedly had a slow start to the season and recently said that it was because he is still learning several new positions in new head coach Josh McDaniels’ offense. Luckily for Royal, he was not needed on offense because he had no catches, but I think he did enough on special teams for the Broncos.
Eddie Royal joined the Dan Patrick Show and talked about his punt and kick return TD’s on Monday, the trash talking pregame, some of the differences between this years and last years team, and the throwback uniforms.
Asked about becoming the 11th player in NFL history to return and Kick and Punt for a TD in a game:
“It was a great honor. But if you look on film I got to give the guys a lot of credit for their blocking for me. They opened up the wholes and made it pretty easy for me.”
Asked if he was surprised the Broncos are now 6-0 on the season:
“You know, not at all. I am serious, with the way our staff prepares us each week and the preparation that they put into each game plan. And the way the guys are really buying into the system and playing for each other. You never know what you can do when you’re playing for each other.”
Asked how much jawing was going on during the pregame warm-ups:
“You know, there was a lot going on, especially during warm ups. I couldn’t understand anybody. It’s a rivalry game, it’s a big game for both teams and everybody was amped up and ready to go. And that’s football for you.”
Asked about the differences in quarterbacks from this season and last year, Cutler and Orton:
“Its hard to say because its two different offenses that we are running. So it’s hard to try and compare them at all. Kyle is doing a great job at running this offense. He is limiting the turnovers that we have and he is really managing our team and the offense.”
