Roddy White: “They are America’s team and you always get jacked up to play the Cowboys”

When the Super Bowl predictions came out by all of the pundits, no one really gave the Atlanta Falcons a shot at the title. In Vegas, they were a middle-of-the-pack with odds at 25/1 to start the season. Since then, things have changed a little bit. The Falcons are 4-1 and are one of six teams that are at least 4-1 or undefeated. After a holdout that lasted a few weeks into training camp, Roddy White and Matt Ryan are starting to get back on the same page where they left off last season. Roddy has had 3 touchdown catches in the last two games and set an Atlanta Falcons record for most receiving yards in a single game with 210. If the Falcons are to beat the Cowboys this Sunday, it will have to be through the air and Roddy White and Michael Jenkins are licking their chops against a porous Cowboys secondary. My prediction is that he Falcons will win by ten points.

Roddy White joined Fox Sports Radio to talk about the difference in Matt Ryan from last year to this year, him not being a diva wide receiver, and whether he feels that the offense is evolving to pass more often since defenses are planning against the run.

On whether the opposition is more fierce now that they know the Falcons are for real:

“Teams are coming in and they are game planning.  They know we are a good team now.  It just means that the wins come a little harder than they did last year, but we are still going out there and making plays and doing the things  we need to do to win games.”

On the difference in Matt Ryan from last year to this year:

“He is getting a whole lot better from last year.  He is seeing the field.  He is seeing everything.  He is going out there and doing a good job just going out there helping us win games man.  He has got the huddle under control and he is running the plays.  He is getting our checks down in our 2-minute mode.  He moves the ball right down there and scores.  So he does a pretty good job.”

On him not being a diva wide receiver:

“I just go out there and do my job man.  You know my job is to help this team win and go out there and catch passes and move the chains and make big plays out there to help my team man.  This is exactly what I am going to do man.”

On whether he likes to play the Cowboys and if the Cowboys get a little more credit than they deserve:

“Oh no they get a lot of attention.  They won a lot of Super Bowls over there.  They did a lot of good things over there and won a lot of games.  They are America’s team and you always get jacked up to play the Cowboys because they are the Cowboys and you want to go down there and beat em.”

On whether he ever felt like the Atlanta Falcons franchise was spiraling out of control after the Mike Vick situation:

“You always have concern when things like that happen and when you go 4-12 and you are not winning many games.  You are just looking forward to next year to see how good your team is and you don’t actually know until you start playing games.  It was kind of frustrating but once we got our team together and seeing the attitude that we have where everybody wanted to work hard.  Then it was all uphill from there.”

On Roddy’s wrestling career in high school and whether he had a signature move:

“I mean I would call it something like that.  (Host: Do you have a name for it?)  I call it the ‘crossface’ but really its called a ‘crossface cradle.’”
