Will Witherspoon: “These guys are all about making plays and doing exactly what needs to be done on the field.”October 28, 2009 – 5:45 am by Michael Bean
Not a bad start for Will Witherspoon to his stint with the Philadelphia Eagles. Fresh off a trade from the dysfunctional St. Louis Rams, Witherspoon had an incredible debut for Philadelphia on Monday night during the Eagles 27-17 win over the Washington Redskins. Witherspoon intercepted a Jason Campbell pass and returned it 9 yards for a touchdown. He also forced another fumble, registered a sack, and had 6 total tackles. Not too shabby. Witherspoon joined WFNZ in Charlotte to talk about his stellar debut, how he’s excited to go to a contender, and how he’s been impressed with the Eagles organization and the players on the roster.
On if he’s excited to be a part of a contending team like the Eagles:
“Well, I’m going to make the best out of the opportunity itself. So the great part is coming here to a great group of guys that’s on the roll and ready to keep this thing rolling. And that was my only thing. I’ve got a week to try to get in as much in as I can and try to make sure I can be a part of this team and make things happen.”
On his impressions of the Eagles organization so far:
“Again I’ve got a great impression of this organization and the team, I can see a great, again a great group of guys that’s out there competing every single week. Not willing to kind of lay idle or do anything otherwise. They’re out there to play this game and that says a lot about the guys that are going to be out there each week on the field. You know that locker room presence all week for me has been great. You know, these guys come in Wednesday and are hitting the ground running. You got to do this, you got to get this done, you got to make sure you get this whole deal. We’re talking a lot of different things and making sure everything stays in play. So it’s been entertaining, these guys are all about making plays and doing exactly what needs to be done on the field.”
On if he has plans to perhaps return to Carolina one day to finish his career like Muhsin Muhammad did:
“You know, I never say never with anything. And again, I would have never known I was going to get traded to Philly, I would have never known anything else. So I won’t leave it out of the mix. And again, I loved playing in Carolina, it was a great place to be. I enjoyed the city, I enjoyed the lifestyle there. For me, it was fairly close to home, fairly close to where I went to school, so there are a lot of good things about it. And it’s still the place for me – it’s where I got my start.”
