Sheldon Brown: “I am renting time in this league and I am enjoying every moment of it”

You want to talk about a see-saw season. I can point you right at the Philadelphia Eagles. Right now they are 5-2 and on top of the NFC East (The Cowboys are also 5-2 and Giants are 5-3). They lost in week 2 to the Saints who are undefeated and that‘s fine, ran through KC and the Bucs and then lost to the Raiders. After that game they beat up on NFC East rival Redskins and Giants. Some weeks they look like world beaters other they look like, well like they can lose to the Raiders. The offense is in the top 15 in the league and defensively they are in the top 10.

This past Sunday they matched up against the New York Football Giants and man-handled them. Sheldon Brown and the Philly defense held strong and gave up 17 points to Eli Manning. For the offense, it was the first time since 1992 that the Eagles had scored 40 or more points against their NFC East rivals. If the Eagles can catch fire offensively, they can be dangerous. Somehow, someway the defense year in and year out are solid. They picked off Eli two times and kept the Giants offense in check.
Sheldon Brown joined 610 WIP in Philadelphiato talk about the Eagles big win versus the Giants, Desean Jackson and the outlook for the rest of the season.
Asked if the Eagle Defense did anything different against Eli, he has had success in Philly over time:
“Well I think a lot of the time things that are overlooked are like the importance of a guy like Plaxico, especially in the red zone. And sometimes in 3rd downs he used to bail Eli out by just throwing the jump ball to him and he would get pass interference or just come down with it. So with that being said, I think Eli is missing him a little bit.”
Asked about Desean Jackson and how fast he really is:
“There is no telling how fast he really is. You can line up and give a guy a 40 time and then he gets on the field and runs a 4.7, I bet you Desean’s game speed is faster than his 40. If he is running a 4.3 40 yard dash, then he is playing 4.2 speed. It’s amazing to me how he pulls away from people. It really doesn’t matter if the safety gets closer or farther away because if he is closer, he is going to run by him. It’s something when you get one on one with a player like that, things do go through your mind, and it’s just one of those things in the game when you don’t want to be in that position.”
Asked to talk about the Eagles-Cowboys matchup this Sunday Night coming up:
“I am excited, you know Coach Reid said something real great the other day, he said you guys need to enjoy and cherish every moment because we are all just renting time in this league and we don’t know how much time we have. You know that’s so true and so real. And not only because of Dallas but any game, any play I get on the football field, I am renting time in this league and I am enjoying every moment of it, that’s so true.”
