Bernard Berrian: “Adrian is without a doubt the best back in the league.”

Who would have thought with the addition of Brett Favre that the Vikings would be this good? Well I know all of you Vikings fans thought so but I am not one of you guys. I thought they would improve quite a bit on offense but not this good. After the huge win against their division rival, the Green Bay Packers, the Vikings are now sitting atop the NFC North with a 2.5 game lead. Sidney Rice and Percy Harvin have been a big part of the passing game this season but not so much Bernard Berrian. A year removed from an almost 1,000 yard season and seven touchdowns, Berrian has been almost nonexistent even though he has three touchdowns. It has been the play of Sidney Rice that has caught people’s attention this year not Berrian. The Vikings are 7-1 and they look to get some rest and relaxation this week as it is their bye and start looking ahead to the second half of the season. For the sake of my fantasy team and Vikings fans from around the country, I hope Berrian comes out of this funk and starts to contribute on a consistent basis.
Bernard Berrian joined 790 The Zone in Atlanta to talk about the preparation against the Packers and whether Brett Favre seemed a little different, his thoughts when Brett Favre decided to play for the Vikings, what things Brett Favre does differently than other quarterbacks, and how similar the Vikings playbook is with what Brett was used to in Green Bay.
On the preparation against the Packers and whether Brett Favre seemed a little different:
“No he wasn’t any different really. I think the whole team was a little bit different because we knew what was at stake not just for Brett but what was at stake for the NFC North. Winning this game put is three games in the tie breaker up on Green Bay, three games ahead of him. We are in the lead right now so we are sitting in a pretty good spot.”
His thoughts when Brett Favre decided to play for the Vikings:
“I was fine with it. He made his decision you know. I wasn’t going to be opposed to it at all. I mean if someone is ready to make a decision he is ready to make a decision. Even if he didn’t come, I was fine with Tarvaris or Sage going to play quarterback anyway. I thought we were going to be a great team without Brett anyway so it didn’t really affect my judgment too much.”
On what things Brett Favre does differently than other quarterbacks:
“He will change a play in a heartbeat. I mean it works though. When we are out there he is the one running the offense. He is playing the game, we are playing the game. You got to go with what the guy tells you. One of the best things that I know about him is the communication between the receivers and him and his offensive guys. If we tell him what we see he pretty much tells us and he will change a play in a heartbeat.”
On how similar the Vikings playbook is with what Brett was used to in Green Bay:
“It is not too different. It is a similar version. Some of the terminologies are a little different but other than that it is really nothing too different than what he had with Green Bay.”
Whether it seems like Green Bay laid down this past weekend:
“Did they lay down? Or did we make them lay down? I think we made them lay down. No I don’t think they laid down. I don’t think any team just lays down. Competitors are going to go out there and compete until the clock is over so they know it is done and there is no more.”
Whether Adrian Peterson runs over people in practice like he does in the game:
“No there are times when it is live but we are pretty mindful of each other. We don’t try and go out there and really kill each other and get people hurt. We know that we don’t need people in camp we need people during the season and we know that during the season is where it all counts.”
His response to Skip Bayless claiming that Adrian Peterson is not as good as people think:
“Bayless is crazy. Skip says some things that I agree with. I definitely agree with him on some things he says but that is false. Adrian is without a doubt the best back in the league.”
