Can LSU Shake Up the BCS Standings?

November 5, 2009 – 10:25 am by timgunter

Nick Saban and Les Miles are two of the SEC’s many great coaches. Alabama and LSU are headed for a showdown this weekend in Tuscaloosa in what will be a high-charged atmosphere. This will be Nick Saban’s first game against his former emplyer, LSU, since resigning to go and coach the Miami Dolphins. Saban has downplayed the game stating that this game is not about him it is about his players.

Alabama has been running the ball great this year with their three-headed attack led by sophomore running back, Mark Ingram. LSU’s defensive strength is against the run so this will surely be a game to watch. If LSU can beat Alabama on Saturday, they will be in control of their own destiny. Will they beat Alabama on Saturday? I think Alabama’s running game will prove to be too much for LSU. This will seal the deal for Alabama and we will see a rematch of Florida and Alabama in the SEC Championship game.

Les Miles joined WWL in New Orleans to talk about their victory against Tulane and how it was only the third shutout by SEC team, his team is now playing with a lot of confidence, how it is to be preparing for a huge game like the one with Alabama on Saturday, and the chances the game could come down to a special teams play.

On their victory against Tulane and how it was only the third shutout by SEC team:

“In college football there is a lot of…Both teams have quality players…It is just difficult to get, nice to achieve.  I talked to my team this morning and said it is hard for me to interpret a zero any other way but a darn good effort.”

Whether his team is now playing with a lot of confidence:

“Yeah our football team is getting better.  Our football team is looking forward to taking the field and playing better and that breeds confidence.  The offense feels like that the defense is going to do a good job.  Defense feels that offense is going to do a good job.  Our teams have shown their contribution and our team is looking forward to playing.”

On Charles Scott coming through with a big game against Tulane:

“Yeah we wanted him on the field and making some of those plays and I think that hopefully he can carry that memory and that offensive line’s view of that day into other games that we play.”

On how it is to be preparing for a huge game like the one with Alabama on Saturday:

“Our coaches enjoy the hours that they have planning.  Our players come to the building with a little bit more enthusiasm, more pep.  Every meeting there is a little bit greater attention to detail.  You are right.  Playing a game with significance is why you come to LSU and the reason that you play in this conference that you pursue the best.”

Tell us a little bit about Alabama:

“A very talented team.  Very well prepared, Coach Saban has done a very good job there.  This is a run first throw it second offense.  The defense is nationally ranked in every statistical category.  Special teams, great return men and great coverage units.  It is a quality opponent and it will be a great test for us and it will be a great matchup.  We look forward to posing some difficulty to that team.”

If they win on Saturday, LSU will be in control of their own destiny:

“If we play with poise and play like LSU plays physical, tough, hard-nose football for four quarters, we will like the outcome.”
