Bradie James: “When you hear your getting ready to play the Eagles, it doesn’t matter what their record is, it’s a playoff atmosphere game.”
November 6, 2009 – 9:20 am by Zach KrantzLast season with the playoffs on the line for the Cowboys they headed to Lincoln Financial Field at the end the regular season. By halftime the game was over, the Boys were down 24 points and en route to an embarrassing 44-6 loss to end their season. There is plenty of hatred between teams in the NFC East on a week to week basis, but when it’s a playoff game or a matchup to put a team in the playoffs, it gets personal. Dallas only needed a win to get in last season versus the Eagles, the Eagles needed help from all over the place, and they got it. Philly got the wild card and almost made it to the Super Bowl, but lost to the Cardinals.
The fans know it, the players know it, and the coaches know it. “It” being the hatred between these two teams and the bad taste in the Cowboys mouth after that loss last season. So the stage is set for a hard hitting, trash talking, and emotional game this Sunday Night between these two teams. Philly and Dallas both enter this game at 5-2 and this also means sole possession of first place in the NFC East.
Linebacker Bradie James joined ESPN Radio in Dallas and talked about the big rivalry game this weekend with the Philadelphia Eagles, how he feels about the Eagles, and the embarrassing loss last season to the Eagles 44-6.
Asked about that game last season against the Eagles to end their season:
“It’s certain things we have to say and we have to try and maintain a balance. I will always try to keep it real, being a competitor, it stinks. I mean there is no way you can ever forget, I will never forget that. As a game with so many things on the line, we could have gone to playoffs, they played better than we did and they went to the playoffs. You know I don’t want to hype this game up because we don’t even have to hype it up. We know what’s at stake for this game, it’s the middle of the season and we definitely need to win this game. This is a big game because it’s the next game, and it’s a big game because it’s a divisional rival and we have first place on the line. Yeah we definitely need to go out there and try to win.
Asked when he hears the name Philadelphia Eagles, what’s the first thing he thinks of:
“Tough opponent, it’s definitely an opponent that has given us the blues. We have beaten these guys so it’s not like we know we can’t beat them. They came in 2 years ago beat us 13-6 or something like that when they had to win. I just know as a veteran, two years ago we were more of a young team, 2 years later we are not a young team anymore, and we have some of those players that are still here. I think it’s about time for us to jump over that hump.”
Asked if hates one of the NFC East rivals more than the other:
“Back in the day I think the Redskins were a big rival for the Cowboys, but since I have been here it’s been the Eagles and the Giants. But this is our decade and those are the teams that have gone on to become perennial powers in the NFC East. So each time that we play the Giants and the Eagles it’s a 60 minute battle. The Giants and the Eagles are winning teams right now and each time you go out these two teams really know you and what you are bringing. It’s really no secrets. They know our scheme and we know there’s. It won’t be any surprise’s out there. They have Vick, they have so many different weapons, we know that, that was known way back in the OTA’s when they signed him. We knew that they would have Vick so it’s just a mentality. When you hear your getting ready to play the Eagles, it doesn’t matter what their record is it’s a playoff atmosphere game.”
