Terence Newman After The Cowboys Claw Their Way Atop The NFC East
November 10, 2009 – 5:45 am by Bunk
Are the Dallas Cowboys for real? They sure look the part after taking down their rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, on Sunday Night. The Eagles, which had scored 67 points the previous two weeks (both wins), were limited to just 16 points and 297 yards of offense. Donovan McNabb missed receivers all night, but part of the credit belongs to the Cowboys secondary. McNabb was just 16 of 30 and threw two interceptions. With the big victory – the Cowboys fourth straight – Dallas improved to 6-2 on the season and sits atop first place in the always tough NFC East.
Veteran cornerback Terence Newman joined ESPN Radio following the big victory on Sunday to talk about how the Cowboys limited the explosive Eagles offense to just 16 points and how the team is remaining focused on the bigger goals still on the table for Dallas as they head in to the second half of the season in first place.
On the excitement level on the Cowboys sideline after Mile Austin caught the go-ahead touchdown pass in the 4th quarter:
“There was still a lot of time left. So we were excited to be up, but at the same time, we knew on the defensive side that we had a chance to go back out there and compete against their offense.”
On Dallas’ fine performance limiting the explosive Eagles offensive attack to just 16 points:
“You know, I mean, they’re a good football team, but I think we’re a good football team as well. We got playmakers just like they got playmakers. So we just rose to the challenge today – offense did their job, defense did their job, and special teams, they managed to do their job as well.”
On if the swagger is back in Big D after the Cowboys have won their fourth straight game:
“You know, we’re just taking it one game at a time and trying to win as many games as we can. And hopefully we can end up with a 1st Round Bye, which is the common goal. But making it to the playoffs and getting a win is a big common goal.”
