Anquan Boldin on his relationship with Ken Whisenhunt: “For me and him there is a working relationship.”

November 18, 2009 – 8:30 am by timgunter

Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin was very disappointed when he found out that he wasn’t going to play two weeks ago in the Bears game due to his ankle injury. Boldin said he was good to go but found out at the last minute that he was inactive for the game. It wasn’t the decision that made him mad it was the way that he found out and that was evident in his post game comments last week where he was critical of Coach Whisenhunt and his staff. However, the decision to let him sit and rest his injured ankle paid big dividends for the team on Sunday as he went over 100 yards for the first time this season. In fact, Boldin reached 7,000 receiving yards Sunday in just his 88thgame, which ties him with Isaac Bruce for the fifth-fastest in NFL history. Boldin is a big-time player and will give the Cardinals everything he has on every possession even though this is likely his last year in the Valley of the Sun.  He’s been unhappy withhis contract for a number of years and will only make $3 million (yes, only $3 million, but much less than his NFL worth) in 2010 and it’s doubtful the Cards will deal with the offseason headache again.

Anquan Boldin joined KTAR in Phoenix to talk about his health, whether he feels sitting out for the Chicago game was a benefit for him, whether he has moved past the frustration and moving forward, and what he thinks about when he thinks of Ken Whisenhunt and whether he respects him.

On his health:

“I am feeling pretty good. Probably as good as you can feel in mid-season. I mean I am feeling pretty good.”

Whether he feels sitting out for the Chicago game was a benefit for him:

“Well I don’t think it was so much of being frustrated sitting out. It was just the way that the situation was handled. If somebody on the team came to me beforehand and let me know the situation, although I probably wouldn’t agree with it, I could have respected it. But to find out the way that I did was disheartening. I mean there wasn’t any frustration as far as playing the game. It was the way the situation was handled.”

Whether he has moved past the frustration moving forward:

“Definitely. Like I said, I don’t let situations going on around me dictate the game of football or how I play. If that was the case I would always be up and down because that is just how it goes in the business. I mean I am able to separate work from the rest of it.”

What he thinks about when he thinks of Ken Whisenhunt and whether he respects him:

“I mean I respect everybody in the building, but obviously you have different respect levels for everybody in there. For me and him there is a working relationship.”

On the difference so far this season compared to where they were at this point last season:

“Well I think the difference is us knowing that we are capable of it. No matter what goes on I think there is a lot of resolve in our locker room. No matter what we are going through on the field at any given time we know that we have a good enough team to overcome whatever the situation is. Going on the road this year I think we have been playing well on the road and the crazy thing about that is we play our best on the road because we feel like the whole world is against us. We came back home thankfully last weekend and started playing well at home. I think in our locker room having a lot of resolve comes from last year and the run that we made.”

Who he would take as his quarterback; Peyton Manning or Tom Brady:

“That is a tough one. I mean honestly I wouldn’t mind playing with wither one of those guys. Both of them are…That is hard to choose from. Both of them are smart guys. Both of them are proven winners although Brady does have three Super Bowl rings if anything that would probably give him the edge but that is a tough one.”

  2. Not to mention, Brady didn’t torch your pathetic team like a bad jr. high school flag football team 5 weeks ago.
