Marv Albert: Beef with 50 Cent?
November 24, 2009 – 10:00 am by Zach KrantzMost known by sports fans as one of the voices of a sports generation. YES!!! His Michael Jordan call, “A spectacular move” and “He is on Fire!!!” I remember watching the NBA on NBC and Marv was always on the big games. He will always be known for his broadcasting brilliance and you might even remember Marv being on trial in 1997 for forcible sodomy. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault and battery charges, while the sodomy charge was dropped. Albert was given a 12-month suspended sentence and ordered to continue undergoing counseling. He was dropped from NBC for less then two years and then regained his spot before ABC took over the NBA coverage. He is a legend in the business.
Albert was in Los Angeles last week for a spot on the Jimmy Kimmel Show the night before he was calling the Lakers/Bulls game when a supposed scuffle between him and Rapper 50 Cent happened. WHAT, did I just write that? Marv and 50 Cent have beef? According to the reports, punches were thrown after members of the rapper’s entourage didn’t recognize Albert. Albert told The Associated Press he was not even close to the exchange, which he believed was caused when a member of 50 Cent’s party was prevented by show security from using a phone in the room that was supposed to belong to Albert. Beef or no beef, Marv just got some major street cred with even an “almost” beef with 50 Cent. If there were punches thrown they could always go and get Marv’s brother Steve to call the match, he is used to that. (Showtime Boxing shout out there).
Marv Albert joined Dan Patrickto talk about the incident that happened on the Jimmy Kimmel show and if there is real beef between Marv and 50 Cent and about if he can sit and make those unbelievable calls or does he jump out of his seat.
Asked about the 50 Cent incident on Jimmy Kimmell Live:
“I still have yet to see 50 Cent; we were in different areas of the room. We were both on the Jimmy Kimmel Show last Wednesday. I end up walking into the building and there is something going on maybe 50-60 yards away. It turns out it was one of 50’s people who was trying to make a phone call or was looking for some quiet and asked to go into the dressing room that I was going to use and the security guy said no. I guess words were exchanged between the two, meanwhile we just walked in and see this from a distance and you can hear, “Don’t touch me, don’t touch me”, and we thought they were kidding around. I had no idea who they were at first, but it all settled down and the guy left that was it. I walk into the room and there happened to be a reporter from the LA Times there who was following us around. She saw this and wrote it as part of the story that there was a scuffle. We were not anywhere near it and then as things happened these days, it got online and it ended up that 50 Cent and myself actually exchanged blows. (Dan Patrick hysterically laughing in background). Now Dan I will be able to laugh about this eventually, maybe in a few days, but it’s not that funny to me right now because you see firsthand how a story can be made up and embellished with no accountability. I was no where in sight and never crossed paths with 50 Cent.”
Asked now to be on the record that nothing happened between him ad 50 Cent:
“Well I never saw him that day, the only time I ever saw him actually when we were sitting in the green room and he was on TV doing his spot, and then I went on. I never even saw him”
