Ryan Grant on Aaron Rodgers: “He is a True Leader”

November 30, 2009 – 10:00 am by Zach Krantz

Despite being up just 13-7 at halftime of the Thanksgiving Day game against the Lions, the Packers seemed to have the game in hand. Well at least if you looked at the stat sheet.  Aaron Rodgers threw for 206 yards and they ran for another 50, but were only up 13-7. That’s an almost dominating performance by a team that stands at 7-4 and in the wild card hunt against a team that is really not that good, but on the up and up. Although the offense is pass heavy, Ryan Grant is the horse on the offense running for nearly 900 yards and five touchdowns and also caught another 23 balls for about 200 yards.

The Packers run game wasn’t working like Grant would have wanted to on Turkey Day; he ran for 61 yards on 20 carries and got caught in the end zone for a safety that could have easily been a touchdown for the Lions had Grant’s arm not touched the ground beforehand. That brings me to the key word for the Green Bay offense this year, inconsistent. The Packers have been inconsistent all season, winning one game losing another, but still seem to find themselves in the middle of the playoff picture in the NFC.  Consistency is what is needed from this team from now on starting with the tough Monday Night matchup next week. We all know what the equation for winning late in the season and in the playoffs is; your defense must be dominant and you got to have a good running game and as of right now the Green Bay defense is #1 and Ryan Grant has shown lately they can depend on him as well averaging 91 yards rushing for the last four games despite only 61 last game. Now if they only can jump ahead of Minnesota and New Orleans (unlikely on both accounts) then they can have a playoff game to their advantage at the Frozen Tundra of Lambeau field, but the likeliness of that is about the same of Brett Favre coming back to the Pack and leading them to the Super Bowl.

Ryan Grant joins the Dan Patrick Show hosted by Sean Farnham and Jerry Ferrara (Turtle from Entourage) to talk about the Thanksgiving Day victory over the Lions, what he thinks about Aaron Rodgers, and now getting prepared for Monday Night Football against Baltimore.

Asked about the preparation for the Turkey Day game:

“Its a little different, definitely a little more taxing on the body playing in the short week.  It’s a fun game, the type of game you don’t get to play in that often.  This is my second time since I am in Green Bay, luckily we have gotten two wins so I am glad for it. My family gets a chance to see me play and then I can go home and get some food.

Asked about the progress of Aaron Rodgers as a quarterback in the NFL:

“I think it’s evident how he is playing and at such a high level.  He has been phenomenal for us all season, even with the sack situation being on the ground. He is one of the toughest guys I have ever been around.  Being able to stay poised throughout the ups and downs, and really just put us in the best position to win.  I think he is top two or whatever it was regarding interceptions, he is holding onto the ball. He puts us always in the best position to make a play. He keeps us poised, keeps us on the right track and that’s what you want from your quarterback.  He is a true leader.”

Asked how he goes from preparing for a Thanksgiving Day game to Monday Night Football against the Ravens:

“Well, you make sure you got your legs underneath you number one.  Because I am sure I am going to have to break a lot of tackles and then you just study a lot of film.  They are a great defense, they have been a great defense for the last couple of years.  They play at such a high level I think their team starts with their defense and they feed off of that.  I take a lot of pride playing against them, of course they are coming to our home, coming into Lambeau.  We take pride in not allowing teams to come in there and take our home, our energy, it should be a fun one.”
