Can Anyone Stop Favre and the Vikings?

December 2, 2009 – 9:35 am by timgunter

Last year, the Vikings offense was a one-trick pony and that was Adrian Peterson. If you stopped AP then you would beat the Vikings. Not this year! Brett Favre has added another dimension to thia offense and is scorching defenses for what is a MVP-caliber season with 24 touchdowns to only 3 interceptions. Teams are now having to adjust to his playing and rethink the “Let Favre beat us” attitude.

When the Vikings envisioned Favre coming to Minnesota they thought he would just hand the ball off to Peterson and throw 15-20 times a game. They have since realized that Favre can carry the team and can start playing Chester Taylor more often to let Peterson rest a little more. Peterson and Favre aren’t the only offensive weapons for the Vikings. Sidney Rice has emerged as a deep threat, Percy Harvin continues to impress as he has had back-to-back standout weeks, and Bernard Berrian is getting more involved in the passing game. With Berrian starting to play like he is accustomed to, the Vikings offense should only get better from here and that isn’t good for the rest of the teams in the NFL. These Vikings are for real and should contend for Super Bowl XLIV.

Bernard Berrian joined ESPN Chicago with Waddle and Silvey to talk about whether he feels bad for beating the Bears like they did, whether he thinks the Bears screwed up by not keeping him, whether he thinks he is getting more involved in the offense, and what Brett Favre has done to help all of the guys become better players.

Whether he feels bad for beating the Bears like they did:

“No, it’s part of the game. It’s what is supposed to happen. It’s part of the game, someone has to win, someone has to lose. We’re not going to go out there and take it lightly and end up losing, our they going to feel sorry for us?”

Whether he is surprised at how the teams are scheming him:

“No, I’m not surprised. We have a very dangerous running game and you got to stop the run, I don’t care what anyone says. If you can’t stop the run, you’re not going to win too many games.”

Whether he thinks the Bears screwed up by not keeping him:

“No, I don’t look back at that anymore. It was a done deal and everything was done when it went down. I’ve made a decision not to look back at any decisions I’ve made. I just really look at it like God intended me to be in Minnesota where I’m at now.”

Whether he is surprised to see the Bears D struggle:

“Yeah, I am actually surprised, they have a lot of talent on that defense and a lot of special players, I mean it hurts a lot with Urlacher being out, not only in the run but in the passing game. He takes away a lot of angles in the passing game that it’s hard to get passes in there.”

Whether he thinks he is getting more involved in the offense:

“It’s just been a process this year. You know I’ve been out pretty much most of training camp when all that needs to take place with a hamstring injury. I’m starting finally to get back healthy to where I want to be at. So it’s just now we’re able to work, I’m able to do a lot more things now.”

On what Brett Favre has done to help all of the guys become better players:

“He’s a great quarterback for one and a great leader. The biggest thing about him is he takes control of the offense, he makes it his own. That’s one thing about a veteran quarterback, he’s going to go out there, he’s going to fail, he’s going to fail doing it his way and for you to succeed you have to make it your own because you’re the one playing the position. You got to go out there and run it and I think that’s what a leader does.”
