Ryan Fitzpatrick is Terrell Owens Favorite Quarterback…For Now
December 2, 2009 – 10:10 am by Zach Krantz
He began the season as the backup to Trent Edwards and now he finds himself as the starting quarterback of the Bills, he is Ryan Fitzpatrick. I think what has placed him as the starter and not just as the weekly quarterback in Buffalo was his play versus Miami last week. But I look back at one play in particular, while leading by three points against the Fins and almost a certainty to run the ball and eat at much clock as possible; the deep pass was called and delivered by Fitzpatrick to Terrell Owens. Confidence in your leader is what was called and it was shown by the Harvard graduate. A big win versus Miami solidified him as the Bills starter.
This week is a short week for the Bills as they get set for Rex Ryan and the Jets in Toronto. The Bills are more in the spoiler role then in the run for the playoffs at this point. They come into the game at 4-7 only a game behind the Jets who are 5-6, but there is a logjam of teams at 5-6. So the Bills and Fitzpatrick can hurt the Jets chances and make themselves look pretty on the national game on NFL Network.
Ryan Fitzpatrick joined WFAN in New York and talked about the Thursday Night showdown in Toronto versus the Jets, how Terrell Owens is as a teammate and how easy the wonderlic test was before getting drafted.
Asked about the coaching change and has the offense changed at all:
“We are still running the same offense. We caught a few breaks that we weren’t catching earlier in the year in the last few games. But there is a renewed optimism or excitement and sense of passion that we have played with the last few games and hopefully we can continue that on Thursday night.
Asked about his relationship with T.O and what it’s like being the quarterback on the team with T.O:
“Well he really has been a mild teammate this year. It has been a tough season for him; he definitely hasn’t met his own personal expectations just in terms of his numbers and the way that the season started. We have got on the same page the last few weeks and he has had a few big games. The one thing I can tell you about Terrell is you always see all the bad stuff, all the yelling at people on the sidelines, but he is a competitor and he wants the ball and to me that’s a good thing. You know he wants to make sure you are looking at him when he is open and he gives us a good shot.”
Asked about what he see’s across the field with the Jets Defense:
“Well, they are aggressive and I have played for the Bengals the last two years so I saw a lot of what Rex Ryan could do when he was in Baltimore. There an aggressive defense, you are not going to know where they are coming from with their blitzes. They will play real physical, it really is a tough game to prepare for with the short week like this, but we are going to have to come out play physical and establish the run for sure.”
Asked if he got a perfect 50 in Nine minutes on the wonderlic:
“I finished the test in nine minutes, but I did not get a 50. (Carton: Did you get a 49 as I have heard?) All I can tell you is that it was not the hardest test I have ever taken.”
