There is Now a Company that is Designed to Help Athletes Stay Faithful

I’ve heard of crazy companies before and interesting concepts for businesses, but when I read this I just couldn’t believe it.  How about a company that was designed to help athletes stay faithful?  While the company wasn’t exactly created because of the whole Tiger Woods scandal, I’m sure that it has certainly helped this concept grow.  I’ve seen it in my own life and at my own work and have heard some people say “well, if Tiger Woods is cheating on his smoking hot wife, I wonder if my husband or significant other may be doing that as well?”  It’s not as if people weren’t aware of infidelity before the Tiger Woods saga.  However, I think the entire story has created enough of a buzz that people have had their eyes opened more.  Tia Robbins is the wife of New York Giants defensive tackle Fred Robbins and she has decided to create a company called “Off The Market” to help strengthen the relationship between a pro athlete and their significant other.  

The idea of the company is to essentially create an environment where couples can get together and be with other couples as opposed to going to a night club or a bar with a bunch of single guys and have some temptations come their way.  I guess because they are on the road as much as they are and because they’re pro athletes that some of the ladies are getting concerned with the attention that their significant other can receive at times.  So Tia Robbins along with Jerika Johnstone, the wife of former NFL player Lance Johnstone and Jasmine Silva, the girlfriend of St Louis Rams Safety James Butler have all gotten together and created this company that is designed to keep athletes stay faithful.

Fred Robbins and his wife Tia joined Hardcore Sports Radio to talk about the new company that Tia created, what led to the company getting started, and how Fred deals with being on the road all the time.

On the new venture that she created called Off the Market:

Tia: “Well there are two events, off the market events and off the market online. And off the market events we want to create a healthy environment for couples so they can have a good time.  Fred and I still like to go out, like to listen to music, but sometimes when we go to a nightclub it’s not the best environment to be in.  So I think it’s kind of cool for us to create our own environment, where everyone there is with someone, they are in a relationship or they are with a wife or someone they are dating, but everyone is there with a significant other or partner.”

On the reason for the seminars:

Tia: “Some of the things I want to accomplish with the online sites, when Fred and I got married I was trying to figure out what the next step in my life was.  I want to grow as a wife and a woman, so I started reading a lot of books about marriage and relationships.  One of the keys I found was that you have to look into the lives of other happy couples.  So we want to share our experience with others and what works with us and hopefully others can do the same.  I just want to build and empower women so that those who want to build a healthy relationship, we can do that.”

On how you cope with the atmosphere on the road:

Fred: “A lot of guys can have fun and get along together, but going out it’s a different atmosphere.  We have guys night out and have fun, but sometimes when you step out, some guys are comfortable having their wives around, but it can be uncomfortable for the wife at times.  So it is just a change of pace for us, like Tia says we get out and have fun, not just go out to banquets.  Something that can be more comfortable with the other wives.  Her and her girlfriends like to go out and have fun and the husbands are close, so like I said it’s just a change of pace.  It’s not just a bunch of single guys going out to a place.  It would be an uncomfortable feeling, ‘cause you want to spend time with your friends but you want to spend time with your wife too.  It makes her feel uncomfortable if she is sitting in the corner by herself having a cocktail or something.  It’s a change of pace and we are getting good feedback from guys around the league and some of my teammates.  Guys do want to take their wives out and have a good time, but it’s not the same when you are always hanging out with your single friends.”
