Erin Andrews on DWTS: “I just thought that this would be a good way to forget about everything that had happened and maybe talk about something new with my life”

Erin Andrews is one of the newest cast members on the tenth season of Dancing with the Stars.  I have never watched the show before, but I think I might actually catch an episode or two this season.  Other cast members include: Chad Ochocinco, Shannen Doherty, Pamela Anderson, and Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger.  Any chance you can see Andrews and other beautiful women dancing in tight skirts is must-see TV.

Most of us sports fans know of Andrews from the work she has done with ESPN.  Mainstream America knows her from the “peephole incident”, where she was illegally videotaped unknowingly in her hotel room by some pervert that posted it on the internet.  Andrews has made a name for herself by doing her job and doing it well.  She has expressed her desire to do something in television other than sideline reporting (ie. Robin Roberts).  Roberts joined ESPN back in 1990 and is now on ‘Good Morning America’.  Andrews has never bowed to the pressure of becoming a sex symbol promoting herself by using her body as a way to get ahead in the sportscasting world.  Maybe now is the time to capitalize on it and further her career.

Erin Andrews joined WCNN in Atlanta to talk about being selected to be part of the cast on Dancing with the Stars, how far along she is in training for the competition, and about the selection process and when she received news that she made the show.

On being selected to be part of the cast on Dancing with the Stars:

“Yeah, I am no Kelly Monaco but I’ll give it a whirl.  We will see what happens.”

Whether she knows who her partner will be:

“Yep, I am with Maks.  I just got out of practice.  A good three hour practice, four hour practice and my dogs are barking.  I am not really used to spins and turns in high heels.  It is different.  Imagine this.  Maks says that I walk like a guy.  I wonder why.  I am surrounded by them 24/7 so now I got to walk like a chick.  I am learning how.”

Whether she has had dance training:

“Ballet, jazz, lyrical, all of that.  But it is totally different with ballroom and partner.  It’s a whole other language.”

On who else will be dancing:

“With Chad Ochocinco, Kate Gosselin, Pam Anderson and yeah there is a lot.  It is crazy.”

How far along she is in training for the competition:

“No, this is day two.  The first day was Sunday and that was the first time that I met him and then we put a good two hours of training, two-three hours.  He wanted to see how much I could pick up.  What I could do.  Today was a little bit more intense.  I am breaking stuff down.  He is stepping on me.  I am stepping on him and I fell a few times.  That was great and then…  I won’t see hi all day tomorrow because I have got the game, but then I will see him in Atlanta on Thursday for day three of training.  Typically, when things calm down for college basketball I have got like six hour days of training.  So when you hear that Nancy O’Dell and Jewel broke their legs, you can see how.”

About the selection process and when she received news that she made the show:

“They actually called me around college football time.  I was talking to the producers in the summer before everything happened with me and then everything kind of exploded obviously in the summer and then they came back at college football around then and said that we would like you for season ten and then I didn’t really know what I was going to do.  I had talked about with my family and friends for a good month and kind of fought against doing it and then I just finally thought to myself, you know what I need something new.  I need something to make me happy, kind of change it up a bit, get excited about things again and I just thought that this would be a good way to forget about everything that had happened and maybe talk about something new with my life.  Yeah I just decided to give it a whirl.  We will see what happens.  Hopefully people are talking about that, me making an idiot out of myself or making a fool out of myself.”
